How The Girlfriends Cast Stabbed Jill Marie Jones In The Back Don’t know how true this is..
MediaTakeOut.com has learned that actress Jill Marie Jones, who plays Toni on the hit show Girlfriends, has decided to leave the show. And it appears that her co-stars may have pushed her into leaving. Earlier this year, the cast was reportedly told that show's budget needed to be cut in order for it to be picked up by the newly formed CW Network. Outraged by the prospect of salary cuts, the four actresses, Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan), Golden Brooks (Maya), Persia White (Lynn) and Jill Marie Jones all agreed to work together and negotiate their contracts as a group. A show insider tells MediaTakeOut.com, however, that once the network put pressure on the ladies their coalition fell apart and Jill Marie Jones was left out on a limb. According to the insider, "Jill thought that they were sticking together so she rejected the network's lowball offer. Little did she know the others went behind her back and accepted their offers." When Jones confronted her co-stars about their failure to stand together, they were less than sympathetic. Our source tells us that Tracee Ellis Ross told Jones "I'm sorry but I have to keep my job." Jones may have thought that this form of negotiation would have worked since it worked so well for other sitcom stars. In 1997, the cast of Seinfeld negotiated the sum of $600K per cast member per episode - an unprecedented amount at the time. Also in 2002, the cast of Friends stood together and negotiated a salary of $1M per cast member for each of the season's 24 episodes. Sad if this is true.... I guess the others realize that they're not Seinfeld or Friends.... [Edited 5/30/06 7:36am]

"Friends"-level casts aren't the only ones to resort to this. Lesser, CBS shows have had to quell the same sort of salary revolt. It's a shame the cast solidarity -- if this story is true -- couldn't be maintained. There's power in that tactic, which is why networks try so hard to divide cast members.
Network management must have said to them: "Listen, Girlfriends -- We're a new network and you're relatively popular among your people. But, don't think we won't kill this show and fill your slot with reruns of 'Thea' ... . [Edited 5/30/06 13:57pm]

They should have stuck together. I don't want her off the show, it just wouldn't be the same without all 4 of them

Interesting how the complexion of the show changes, with JMJ's departure.
Any word on Damon Wayans' first daughter from "My Wife and Kids?"

You know what? This new station is FUCKED UP
They moved Everybody Hates Chris to Sunday @ 7p Top Model is Wednesday & Sunday BUT which one is the first run? If it's Sunday then & now this Girlfriends shit. I know it's not Seinfeld or Friends but that's not the point - a lot of people really like this show. As far as Black shows it's very popular. I was so looking forward to this season, this really irritates me

I guess Jill must have forgot what happen ten years ago in July to New York Undercover actors Malik Yoba and Michael Delorenzo when they demanded the same thing with their salary contract. The way Dick Wolf and Fox did to Michael's character in the final episode of third season could happen to Jill's character if she would pursue her negotiation. [Edited 5/30/06 16:53pm]

I like that show and I like watching Lynn as she reminds me of myself as we have a lot in common. I am wondering William is still going to be part of the cast? I don't see his name or picture anywhere.

Not to put a damper on things but I heard last week or the week before when the networks were doing the new season lineups for 06-07 that Jill Marie is going to be a cast member of a new show on CBS with Ray Liotta that I think is called "Smith", so she's not going to be coming back on Girlfriends next year. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
