Well, Im only 22, so Im not doing the 20 years part
But "the younger me" would be glad that I turned into the person I wanted to be when I was a teenager on the outside...except she would be rather disturbed that Im still a bit lost on the inside

er.. or something like that? . [Edited 5/30/06 4:41am] You sound like a very chilled out, feet-firmly-on-the-ground person 20 years ago. 20 years ago? you saying i'm out of date?

Weird, this topic came up on the weekend...
I was saying how, at the moment, I'm just as happy - if not more happy - staying in, instead of going out lately. I love a good night out but I'm just as happy staying in these days. I think my 21 year old self would be disgusted. I'm not sure. If you asked the 'me' of 6 months' ago, 1 year, 2 years, whatever, they'd have all given a different answer. Life changes and evolves. I think the teenage/twenties me would just be pleased that I'm chilled, happy and managed to accept myself. And become my own person. I didn't think I'd ever get to that place. But I think they'd be just as frustrated that I'm still not the most overly ambitious person. I tend to create my own obstacles that way. And they'd probably be concerned that I'm less 'adult' now than I was then. Or so I thought. I dunno. I just hope I've been true to myself throughout. Just a bit older and a bit wiser now.

I know that in 1993 I predicted that by 2003 I would be a "wealthy songwriter/producer". I'm broke. But I've already made an indie CD recording (see siggy).

Ex-Moderator | I think I'd be happy with all the traveling I've done. And shows I've seen. And fun I've had. But damn, I never thought I'd have dropped out of college. Or be doing what I'm doing now for work. |

I was four, so I'd probably just hide behind my own leg due to shyness. Odd thought. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Moderator | My 7 year old self would probably be disapointed that I haven't married a rockstar yet, other than that I think she'd be ok with who I turned out to be. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

This is the best response yet. Didn't we ALL go through the ninja phase?!? Well, those of us who grew up in the 80s, or maybe even during the early part of 90s. I seriously wanted to be a ninja, then at around eleven I figured out it wasn't a realistic career choice - so I chose to pursue the career of a rockstar instead. I gave up that career plan at around 24. Now I have no idea what I am going to do after I graduate from the University.

20 years ago, I wasn't even ten years old, so I'm not sure whether this hypothetical younger me would be able to fully grasp my current life and the ways I've both changed and stayed the same.
With that said.... I don't think there's much of anything that happened between 1986 and age 17 (when I finished high school) that would really surprise me. After age 17, when I started college, is where things would get interesting. Now, a few "basics" wouldn't be a surprise at all. For example, it was about 20 years ago that I chose the profession in which I now work. And if I had to list five universities where I might continue my education after HS, the university that awarded both of my degrees would probably be on that very short list. But I think I'd be surprised at many of the experiences I've had since then. Maybe the two biggest shockers would be my relocation to the West Coast, where I basically have no roots, and getting divorced at age 25. Oh, while this really has nothing to do with the person I am now, I'm sure the younger me (who was quite happy to use an IBM PC XT with a four-color display) would be amazed by the Internet, my laptop, and Wi-Fi. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
