My Air Conditioner Is On The Fritz Again!

I turned it on last night before going to bed, thinking it would cool the house off, but no such luck. I got up this morning, my thermometer showing the temperature inside the house did not go down at all. pissed pissed What makes it worse is that this is a holiday in the US (Memorial Day), so I don't even know if I can get anybody out here today to fix it. I know that it will cost me more money than usual to get it fixed (these places charge more on holidays, which I understand, since they are giving up their free time), but I am more than willing to pay it, just to get the situation rectified. I keep calling the place that fixed my air conditioner last time, but I get a busy signal every time. I'm not sure if that means that the line is just busy, or if the phone is just off the hook for today, because the answering service is not working today. This happens to me every time it either gets hot or cold outside, something with this damn unit goes on the fritz, and I wind up calling somebody out here. What makes it even more aggravating is that this heating/air conditioning unit is only 6 years old, but I've had nothing but problems with it. I'm sick of it!!!! pissed pissed
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

We went through that last year with our a/c...we were without it in the middle of
a very hot June with no a/c

It may pay to pick up a window unit just for today..a couple hundred bucks, and you'll always have a backup, until to central unit gets repaired.

Wow, that sux not having air conditioning in the hot weather, doesn't it? sad

The good news is that I was able to get through to the place that I've been calling, and left a message with the answering service. They said that someone would call me back. I HOPE that someone can come out here today, even if I have to spend extra money to get this problem fixed, it's okay with me. Yesterday this house got so darn hot, I was miserable. Today I'm sitting under a ceiling fan, just trying to keep cool. If they don't come out today, I may just get a window air conditioning unit, as you suggested.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

A couple of years ago I had the same problem. Air Conditioner needed freon, 80+ degrees out, weekend. I left my cell # on a repair man's answering machine and went to the mall/movies/supermarket while I waited for the phone call. I figured I might as well be in air conditioning than sit around in a hot house all day. smile

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Btw...it always breaks on a holiday weekend, that's the rule.

I'd also suggest, you take out a service maintenance contract on the thing

BUMMER!

Specially if it's as hot where you are as it is in MPLS. It was 97 here yesterday. That just ain't right for Memorial Day. I think we just hit 90 this hour as well.

HOT.

"Air conditioner". . . ? Is this some kind of filtration system or something?

wink

I would actually like one. My top-floor apartment has been getting a little bit toasty on warm days. However, NOT 97 DEGREES TOASTY! omfg

Minnesota has got to have the most extreme weather changes of anywhere on earth, I swear to you. From 30 below in the winter to over 100 degrees and humid in the summer. And it's not even really summer yet! It's crazy! nuts

That's a great idea! Why suffer in a hot house if you don't have to?

Chico! Where you been? hug I already had the ceiling fan on and was sitting under it yesterday until the repairman came yesterday. I had the windows opened too, but since my windows face south, I don't get much air coming in them at all. lol @ the ice down my shirt suggestion.

I hear ya, I live on the second floor of a two story apartment-style condo building. When it gets hot outside, I feel it in here, since heat always rises. Not good.

Yeah, Ohio is the same way. I swear, the midwestern states get the most extreme weather of any place in the U.S. It's crazy!
