Logo Gear: Yay, Nay, or Who Cares?

Which group do you fall into?

1. I LOVE LOGO GEAR. You like to wear t-shirts with the logos of your favorite clothing stores and designers. If you had to pick between a plain baseball cap or one with a Nike swoosh logo, you'd go with the swoosh because it's cooler looking. You also like shirts with logos of things like your favorite beer, your favorite movies and bands, and even Mickey Mouse.

2. I HATE LOGOS ON MY BODY. You don't want to be a human billboard and you don't see the point in paying your own money for clothing that simply makes you one of their advertisers. If you get a cap with a Nike swoosh as a gift, you'd either rip the patch off, or put a piece of duct tape over the logo. Or you'd just throw it away. If you have to wear pictures or words on your clothes, it's only for things in which you REALLY believe, like social/political causes.

3. I REALLY DON'T CARE WHAT GOES ON MY BODY. What's the big deal? If it's clean, you'll wear it. NSYNC t-shirt? "I Heart Enron" t-shirt? Whatever. As long as it doesn't have pit stains. What you wear has absolutely no bearing on you - they're just shirts and pants and hats and sock and shoes. You don't want to put time and money into tailoring a wardrobe to express your interests, so whatever's clean is what you'll wear. Simple as that.

BONUS QUESTION:

If a corporation like Nike or Budweiser offered to put you or your child through college for free if you agreed to get a tattoo of their logo put somewhere visible on your body (like, say, your neck)...would you do it? Would you do it for any price?

...or: what if a corporation had an offer in which they'd give your as-yet unborn child a free ride through school if you named the child after their corporation? What if they would settle for just the middle name?

I've got band/concert T shirts (and hoodies, and bags and such) and while I really only wear them to the gym or out walking around the lake I wouldn't wear/carry them if I didn't want to support the band in some way.
I generally don't wear any other logos, but I'm not utterly opposed either. It's just not my style. I can't think of a corporate logo that is... hmmm

I DO care what I wear, though. I wouldn't wear, say, a Wal-Mart logo.

So I'm guess I'm somewhere in between all of the above. lol.

I hate logos. I only wear band t-shirts (usually ones that I make myself), if that counts as a logo. And then only if I'm a superfan of that particular band.

Although I don't hate logos like Nike, Saucony, Brooks, Prana, Adidas, etc. I guess if they happen to be on workout clothes I have. That just seems like a given. shrug I don't go out of my way to buy designer workout clothes though.

No and no to your bonus questions as well. biggrin

I usually wear solid colours so a little logo here & there looks pretty cool, brand names also have that standard quality you can rely on.

When you need clothes, you wear whatever you can find.

NO WAY!

I just remembered I did sort of get sponsored in a way for advertising once upon a time, it just didn't involve clothing.
When I was young and crazy and had next to no money I spent outrageous amounts to get crazy long blond and platinum extensions that I really couldn't afford. The owner of the salon recognized me from the nighborhood the second time I went in to get them fixed up and a few more added and gave me a stack of business cards and told me if I just passed them out to anoyone who asked about my hair, she'd pull me over into the salon and do some more work on my head for free whenever she saw me at the coffee shop next door to the salon.

I HATE LOGOS ON MY BODY

Only fucking morons would...

Okay, sorry I hope I didn't offend anyone with that. But even women with Dolce & Gabbana clothes make me want to go have a serious talk with them about genuine sense of style. Morons... oh sorry, there I go again.

but at least with that, there was an exchange. you weren't paying for the "privilege" of advertising their product.

And that just reminded me that I once did a tour for Calvin Klein dancing. Naturally we had to wear their clothes, but the pay was amazing. woot! Hell, I'd do that again for sure. lol

Considering I wear this all the time...

It really depends on the logo. If it's a good design for a product I like...I could care less.

If it's a brand that I actually use/like, I'll wear stuff that advertises it...la di dah...

If it's one that I don't care for, or never really use...then I probably won't, even if it looks cool.

As many folks know, I tend to be a walking billboard for the bands I enjoy. Concert Ts take up the majority of my closet space. And I have no problems with this. Besides, most of the bands I like are relativlely 'unknown' to the general populace in MPLS so people often think I'm just wearing a silly shirt and have no idea it's for a band.

Beyond that, I tend to avoid clothing with big ol' designer logos. Some of my nicer shirts do have the designer on them. But tasteful clothing lines (like Ben Sherman) do it in a very discrete way so you barely notice it. If I like a design of clothing but the logo's too big I will generally avoid it.

BONUS QUESTIONS:
-I will never have children. But, I may consider nameing a kitty after a corporation if they'd pay off my bills.

-If The Charlatans asked me to tatoo their name on myself. I'd do it. They'd just have to ask, they wouldn't even have to pay me. mr.green

I'm sort of in between. I refuse to wear a logo to something I don't use, like, etc. I have a t shirt with a brand name on it, but I wear it because I like it and I believe in the product that is on the shirt. I have a couple band/music shirts, and I wear them because I like the person or band that's on the shirt and the style of the shirt. But I don't make a point of wearing logos and stuff. I only buy it if I like it.

My name is Miguel Gomez and I am a LOGO whore.

I own a Dolce & Gabanna belt.
I also own a beautiful VERSACE casual type jacket that has huge VERSACE lettering on the back.

OMG, so freakin' true. lol

I don't wear logo gear, with the exception of a couple of Prince-related shirts. I might wear something with a logo that I found funny or ironic, but I don't have anything like that at the moment. Oh, and I might make an exception for Apple gear, just because I love their products so much. I don't think I currently have any, though. I dunno, there are a couple of designers that I really like. . . Prada. . . Versace . . . I guess if there were some item of clothing or whatever from them that looked cool and happened to have a logo, I might wear it. But it's hard to imagine the logo actually adding to the appeal.

I can certainly imagine being appropriately compensated for a tattoo or something. I'm happy to whore myself out (as long as I don't find the company to be totally objectionable). I'm just not gonna be a billboard for free.

Logos usually get slept in (I rarely bum around in t-shirts outside of the house) but it really depends on the logo itself. I have a cute as shit Bebe shirt & sport jacket that I LOVE love but I try to keep my stuff pretty plain. It's kind of annoying to have some big obnoxious lettering all over you, it even feels gross just exercising in it...

I don't mind logos, so long as they're not too big. I don't buy stuff for the logo, but if I like something and it has one on, that's fine.

I tend to buy all my stuff from MBK and other similar places that sell fake Billabong and Diesel tshirts. They're nicely made and pretty much disposable at $2 each. I'd feel like a sucker spending more on tshirts while living here. Maybe I'm just tight, but how could I walk into a department store and pay 1000 baht ($25) for the same tshirt I can buy for 80 baht ($2) somewhere else?

I think some logos look alright, but I don't look specifically for stuff with them all over the garment.

No about the tattoo thing. disbelief

I fall into this category:

3. I REALLY DON'T CARE WHAT GOES ON MY BODY.

BONUS QUESTION:

If a corporation like Nike or Budweiser offered to put you or your child through college for free if you agreed to get a tattoo of their logo put somewhere visible on your body (like, say, your neck)...would you do it? Would you do it for any price?
no tatts on me.

...or: what if a corporation had an offer in which they'd give your as-yet unborn child a free ride through school if you named the child after their corporation? What if they would settle for just the middle name?[/quote]
nod I would do it, but it would depend on the name of the company obviously. Nike is ok sounding, as is OMO, but IBM would be weird on a little kid.

lol The tattoo would be on your body, not the child's. I mean, if they were going to be on the child I'd not let an inch of skin go to waste! biggrin deal

I generally only buy logo items if 1) I'm really feeling the institution, product, etc.; and 2) there's some element of novelty or quirkiness to what I'm advertising. (i.e., even though I love Banana Republic, I'd probably not wear their logo, because they're just too "out there." I do, however, own a pair of Le Coq Sportif shoes with the trademark rooster on them, for example, because the brand has been pretty rare in the U.S. since the late '80s.)

Same goes for bands, etc., that I like. HBO Six Feet Under T-shirt? nod UPN America's Next Top Model T-shirt? shake Dead Can Dance T-shirt? nod Prince T-shirt? shake ...unless it's some vintage '80s shirt or for a now-obscure album like ATWIAD or Parade. But I wouldn't be caught dead in a 3121 T-shirt for at least the next 10 years.

...As for namesakes and tattoos for money, I'd like to think not.

I like t-shirts with graphics (although a well-worn, plain. black tee can have it's charms, too). I don't have anything with a designer's name on it, though. I view the chest as prime advertising space for what you're all about. nod

Wouldn't go for the tattoo, but might consider the middle-name thing (if the mazuma was right).
