I think it's been acknowledged that Avengers Annual 10 is Madelyne Pryor's first appearance.

it's a different person. he just recycled the name. it's the name of the lead singer of some British band from the 70's that he liked.

Wizard says Avengers Annual 10 is the first appearance of Madelyne Pryor.

Wizard is wrong. While there was a sort of jokey attempt to link that character to Madelyne Pryor, it isn't her.

If the link has been made--however jokey it may be--then they are linked. It's her even if it wasn't originally intended to be.

I just saw it last night....

1 - Too much of a love story for me.

2 - I wanted to see a Sentinel, why waste it in the game room?

3 - I wanted to see more of Colossus.

4 - Cyclops should be pissed at his weak ass role.

5 - Did anyone stay past the end of the credits? Cool scene which confirms a part 4.

6 - Kitty wasn't needed, they should have brought Nightcrawler back instead.

7 - Loved the reference by Mystique - "I don't answer to my slave name" - A classic homage to the Nation of Islam.

8 - They shortchanged us on Phoenix's power. Her role was pretty tame considering the comic book version. She should have leveled a city so we can all see the true scope of her powers a lot more. Plus, she didn't get fiery when she turned Phoenix; a waste.

9 - Pyro was weak. They should have given Magneto a better apprentice.

10 - They should have Professor X show more power against Phoenix, he kinda went out like a bitch, considering he's the most powerful mindblower in the game.

11 - In parts 4 & 5, they better have Sentinels and Apocalypse.

No, they really aren't. Not according to the writer or Marvel.

Then why did Marvel publish the reference to the earlier appearance in the first place? They can try to erase or forget about it all they want. It's already there are paper.

As a major major X-Men fan growing up, I was surprised by how much I loved X-Men when I saw it on a plane (thinking I would hate it), impressed by how much I loved X2 (way more than X1), and having seen X3 on Friday, I have to say I loved this movie. Unfortunately, because of major traffic, I got there late and obviously missed both the flashback scene and the Danger Room (how could I miss the Danger Room - I have wanted to see this in the movies for a long time!!!) - the first part I saw was Hank McCoy speaking to the President as Mystique had just been captured.

Can someone give me a blow-by-blow of the first however-many minutes?

it was an in-joke. and it wasn't meant to go anywhere. and besides, there's a LOT of stuff on paper that isn't actually considered part of continuity. especially in the last 5-10 years.

This wasn't in the last 5-10 years. I remain unconvinced. hmph!

well booyah--- really quick ... as i remember it ... the first scene is set in the "not too distant past" where the Prof and Magneto are (together ) goin to Jean Greys house to see her (as a child) .... commenting on her incredible powers ... and trying to "recruit her" as their first recruit .... (setting maybe 1955+/-???)

then the next scene : is the not too distant future.... where the xmen are fighting in what appears to be like a futuristic TERMINATOR set .... they are gettin shot at .... boom pow .... wolverine instructs Colosus to throw him ... and he does ... into the distance .... u cant see him ... and then powie the head of a mutant-hunting robot comes flyin into the scene --- having just been chopped of presumably by wolverines claws .... ( i cannot remember the mutant hunting robots names....) then ... the scene turns into the danger room with the voice "termination activated " or somethin ..... end of danger room ....

u did miss some good scenes tho ... confused sad wink

Thanks! Yeah, I'll have to see it on DVD - I'm not paying the ridiculous movie theater prices again (unless I'm seeing another movie, and I can sneak into the beginning of X3).
I have to admit that from everything that happened later on (and knowing how movies like this work), I was able to piece together everything you said - I figured they'd shown Prof. X and Magneto going to Jean's house before, and I figured Colossus had done a fastball special before (both of these were shown later as closing an open loop, so to speak).
I also wondered if I missed a scene of Magneto playing chess earlier on - perhaps with Charles - or if this was a reference to the other times they have played.

Did the Danger Room look like the comic books when it shut down? Just a huge open metal room? (Funny that Patrick Stewart's other Hollywood role also involved a room like this - the Holodeck). Was there any mention of Nightcrawler at all (where he went, for example)?

Yes there was, at the end when Magneto tried to use his now-lost powers on the chess piece and it moved ever so gently signifying a part 4.

Everyone's so keen to point to that and the post-credits scene as signs of a part 4 - I would welcome part 4, but I just take it to mean that life continues - it goes on in our imagination, if not in movies (kind of like the end of Back To The Future Part III where Doc Brown and his family are travelling through time on a train).

Naw, bruh, I'm a writer and that was done SOLELY to insenuate "Part 4"...plus, at the very end of all the credits, they show Xavier on a hospital bed with tubes all in him...now THAT guaranteed a sequel.

God please. No part 4 or 5. pray I loved it because it was the X-Men but Halle Berry got on my last damn nerves and the movie had some truly corny parts and tried to introduce too many characters at once. I love The Beast though.

If there is a 4, look for a whole different cast--like the New Mutants or something. No way is Halle Berry and the other big names coming back.

Why wouldn't Halle be back? Studios wouldn't risk losing the Halle and Hugh fan base.

Halle herself said this is her last X-Men film. I would think an actress like her that has lots of other options would not want to be typecast.

Other options like Catwoman? lol

Seriously, it would make sense to have all newbies. Patrick Stewart's in a new body anyways.

Us diehards would go see it no matter who was in it.

Oh ok, well if she said so then cool. But I dont see how that would typecast her since she's known for other roles other than Storm (Dorothy Dandridge, Monster's Ball, Swordfish, Bond Girl).

Right, the point is she wants to keep doing those other roles rather than be tied up with the X-Men franchise for the rest of her life.

Who was the mutant who grew strange Bugle-shaped darts out of his wrists and threw them at Wolverine in the forest? Is he from the comic books too? I don't remember him, but it seems a lot of characters have been introduced in the last 10 years or so.

That was Marrow's mutant power in the books--to grow bones from her body and use them as weapons--but she was female. I didn't know who the guy in the film was.

Spike. He was originally created for the X-Men: Evolution cartoon. Almost identical power to Marrow.
