Has anyone ever had an EMG?

I have to go today for my wrists and I was told it's very painful. I think I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but I'm really not looking forward to it.

Has anyone had this done? What am I in for?

Great, I just googled it.

"With nerve conduction studies, small electrodes will be taped to your skin or placed around your fingers. You typically will experience a mild and brief tingling or shock, which may be a bit unpleasant."

I may have carpal tunnel from typing on the org too much. My hands go numb and constantly ache.

You should get one of those computers that you can control by blinking your eyes.

confuse I thought it was an EMG I've had years ago, but that was on head...I used to have epilepsy, had a couple fo them. Mustve been called something else because it was just electrodes on the surface of the skin, measuring brain activity. Didnt hurt at all, in fact I fell asleep once!

Hope youll be ok Carrie hug

These are needles with electrodes. They say the needles do not hurt because they are small, but the shocking is 'unpleasant'. neutral

A woman I work with had them done and she said it sucked. She compared it to chewing a piece of tin foil. neutral

I told the woman I sit through tattoos like a champ and she said you can't compare it to that. That tattoos are epidermal and this goes right into your nerves and muscles.

So it wasn't bad? I need reassuring!

They're not sure if I have it. That's why I'm going for this testing. One of my wrists is extremely swollen and there may be some kind of cyst in there. I just have to get this taken care of while I still have insurance. Joy.

i had one. it was years ago but for real, they stuck two inch needles into my arm at different points and asked me to flex the arm so they could read the nerve impulses transmitted through the needles. my mom knew they would but didn't tell me because she thought i'd chicken out eek

Is the carpal tunnel really from "typing"? Or is that some new slang?

It's from repetitive motion. I type all day at work, for the past 7 years.

well... no. but when they explained what would happen i felt a bit ill. it's definitely bearable pain but i didn't like having an object stuck in my arm like that. it was more a sensation of violation. i really wish mom had warned me beforehand.

i ended up (eventually) being diagnosed with referred pain in my arm resulting from a herniated disc in my neck, for which i've since had surgery. so, in the long run it was worth enduring the test. i really hope things go well for you

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I think I can hack it, I've been through a lot in my 29 years.

Dude, it was a piece of cake.

That shit didn't hurt at all.

I'm such a baby.

And I don't have carpal tunnel which is good! Now I go for an MRI to see what's going on in there.

I have one of those horrible little fuckers for my knees. What it is suppose to do is shock my muscle into contracting in the right direction so my knee won't roll out of place. When you first start out if feels like buzzing. Then you have to increase the thing and it is like being electrocuded on purpose. Your muscles will contract by themselves and it feels weird. Combine the feeling of throwing up and electrocution together. Uncontrollable muscle movement and electricity. I had to do it for six months every other day. I said fuck it and let my knee friggin contract and roll out of place whenever I walked. lol You have to decide which type of pain you prefer, your wrist or the pain from the machine. You will need to stock up on Motrin 800's too.
