a petsitter's nightmare

this has had me down since sunday...

i was petsitting this weekend, and one of our clients is a woman who breeds Boston Terriers - she has 5 right now, including an old male, McKinley, who is 15 or 16 years old.

so on sunday at mid-day, when i got there, McKinley's breathing was very labored - it was scary. sad

so i called the owner on her cell phone; she was on her way home from the beach, about 4 hours away. she told me to take him to the emergency vet, and of course i did (that was ONE long drive)

when i got there, the receptionist and triage assistant were understandably very concerned, immediately took him to the back and then talked to the owner. after they finished the paperwork, etc., they told me i should leave, there was nothing i could do, and they didn't know what was going on yet - for me to talk to the owner. (i got the sense that they saw this as some sort of privacy issue)

i left the woman a note with our office number and my cell phone number, asking her to call us - we were obviously worried. of course we get attached to these animals, and any animal getting sick or god forbid dying on our watch is our worst nightmare.

today is wednesday, and she has not bothered to call. my boss told me she probably wouldn't - she's just like that. calling the vet would do no good, and it's not my place to call the client - my boss would have to do that.

long story short, keep little McKinley in your thoughts, and if you have a petsitter, know that we care very much, so please keep us posted on the health of your animals.

That sucks.

Yesterday during my morning walk, I saw a Boxer get hit by a car.

It was so horrible.. I don't know if he was hurt, he got up and ran life a greyhound.

After my walk I circled the park to see if I would see his owners, and ask how he was.. Couldn't find them. sad

The driver stopped... because the owner pounded on the car..

We tried to chase the dog, but he was so fast.. Traumatized. sad

Maybe I will see them tomorrow..

ugh, that must have been horrible to see... my greatest nightmare is to hit a person or an animal with my car. yesterday, on my way home, i saw a guy trying to cross an 8-lane interstate on foot - at 5:30 in the afternoon!!
