Ok I know most people will say it's Richard Pryor but I disagree. For me It's Eddie Murphy and then Chris Rock would be a close second. Sorry no Dabe Chapelle for me. He's not that funny to me. After watching Raw again recenty I have to say that Eddie Murphy is hilarious and those jokes killed me. I've never seen Delirious. I don't think it made it's way to DVD yet. So what do you guys think? Who is the king?

woody allen had a very good stand up act

Richard Pryor was better then Eddy Murphy, not saying Eddy isn't funny..Richard was better

Steve Martin had an incredible standup act

Steven Wright is incredibly talented

So was Rodney

and believe it or not, Henny Youngman

I dunno if it's a generational thing with Richard Pryor. I have a couple of friends who love him. I borrowed the DVDs and didn't laugh once. The material is nothing I can relate to, and I found myself pitying him. It just felt uncomfortable to watch. Of course I loved his cheesy movies from the 80s as a kid, but as a stand-up I can't stomach him.

Eddie Murphy on the other hand was just brilliant (though Raw does sort of drift off into one long unfunny sketch towards the end, but Delirious is better). Pryor may have been his idol but I can't find many similarities in them. I enjoy Chris Rock in pieces.

Gotta say though, as a non-American, there are only a couple of Americans that I would class as my favourites.

Dave Chappelle's Stand up is hilarious. Don't judge him by his hit and miss tv show.

Chris Rock lost what made him special. His last special sucked.
