Trying NOT to drink! So I'm worried I'm on the borderline of alcoholism...
during the week I usually try and take one night off (but fail) and tend to have 2-4 drinks a night at home after a long day of work. then...Friday nite it's on and I usually get pretty faded. Saturday comes and I allow myself to start with something around lunchtime or early afternoon then on and off... then...Sunday is my DRANKIN day! I'll allow myself unlimited amounts and then feel like shit that night and then Monday swear up and down I'm gonna stop drinking... now it's Tuesday and I want to drink! But I'm trying to prove to myself I ain't a total alcoholic. HELP! I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

It sounds like a problem and that's okay . I'm happy to support your decision to drink less. It might help to reach out to others who don't drink as much as possible. Willpower is difficult to maintain with no support group. And it's nothing to be ashamed of. Just a problem that needs to be attended to.

Sounds pretty much like my week except I try not to get wasted on Sundays because Mondays at work are already depressing enough.
It is important to have one day off a week and I always make that Monday to get it out the way. I'll typically have around three glasses of wine a night after work just to relax and because i enjoy it. Fridays and Saturdays I pretty much binge, especially if I go to the football. Many europeans drink every day and dont think anything of it. Dont listen to the puritanical people out there and kill all the joy in the world. However, try not to go too overboard either...lol When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Nah, my average is a few drinks on Sundays when I have dinner w/ friends. But it's rare for me to drink during the week, I wouldn't get much done if I did

What's wrong with being an alcoholic?

I've recently given up drinking.
I never gave up totally before, always imposed rules like, only with dinner, if someone else buys it, not at home e.t.c. Which meant there were always round it. if i just say, 'I don't drink' then its a hundred times easier. I found though, that i was using it to overcome shyness in groups and at home to combat boredom. These things I'm addressing at the moment. So far. i have.nt drunk in may. Unless your body is hardcore dependent on alcohol, after you get through the three day stretch you should be okay...without being truly chemically dependent on something, most bad habits can be broken without a second look back after three weeks...I think that most of what you may be experiencing is a kind of nervous twitch based on having an oral fixation and a need to have something in your hand all the time...you can help yourself with this by making sure that you just have a buttload of alternative beverages on hand in the fridge, and maybe even taking the time to daily mix a big batch of something up like tea, or some cute cleansing beverage and stick it in a picture for pouring throughout the day. This will give your restless hand something to do, as well as satisfy the oral fixation... and it will keep you in your comfort zone of having to constantly have senses of sound (the pouring of liquid, the musical clink of glass against glass), touch ( the feel of having your restless hand wrapped around something solid and steadying), and taste (self-explanatory) happening simultaneously...again, unless you're truly, physically dependent on that alcohol, all you're really experiencing is being out of your comfort zone, but you can still recreate it again, only without the booze, and still achieve that "lullaby effect" you need to not feel the compulsion to go for the liquor... Good luck, Pookie-Poo!

There has been more than one time I've thought this too about my self. It's werid because I work in a bar so I pretty much get paid to drink (plus drinking sometimes is the only way I can deal with some of those guys!)
but yes on my off days..sometimes I crave getting my drink on...because I feel like that drinking is just for me and my friends/boyfriend...and not like I am doing it for my job. But then I just get tired of feeling buzzed...it kinda remindes me of work...which I guess is a good thing...I try do focus on things like reading a book, watching a movie, going for long walks/bike rides..not partying at clubs on my off days or getting wasted with my friends. There are so many other of life's pleasures that I try to induldge in rather than the nightclub sceane or drinking.

I've thought this myself, then I realized that it's the only thing that makes me forget reality. But good luck with it!

But I'm trying to prove to myself I ain't a total alcoholic. HELP! You are an alcoholic. To many day to day alcoholics like to imagine an alcoholic as someone that goes on benders and ends up drinking until they are face down in the gutter pissing themself. This is not the truth, it is the illusion. Most alcoholics drink "just enough too much" daily. They, like my mother, tell themself they are bored or that they just need a couple of drinks to put them to sleep. It's a dependancy. I would advise you to admit you have a drinking problem, because acceptance is the first step on the road to recovery. If you would like to argue your alcoholisim. Please I would love to hear from you next week after you haven't had a drink in one week. I too will not have a drink. But it is simple for me, because I am not an alcoholic. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
