Because AA has a monopoly on "curing" alcoholism and refuses to allow the American public to think outside the box in regards to moderation versus abstinence.. all this in spite of the fact that AA has a 90% failure rate.... [Edited 5/18/06 15:42pm] 10% success is pretty phenomenal though

[Edited 5/18/06 15:42pm] 10% success is pretty phenomenal though i respectfully disagree. actually, i wouldnt have issue if they would let those who fail know that they are alternative options for treatment...that zero tolerance is not the needed cure for all..but they dont do that and it frustrates me. oh well... during the week I usually try and take one night off (but fail) and tend to have 2-4 drinks a night at home after a long day of work. then...Friday nite it's on and I usually get pretty faded. Saturday comes and I allow myself to start with something around lunchtime or early afternoon then on and off... then...Sunday is my DRANKIN day! I'll allow myself unlimited amounts and then feel like shit that night and then Monday swear up and down I'm gonna stop drinking... now it's Tuesday and I want to drink! But I'm trying to prove to myself I ain't a total alcoholic. HELP! 12 step programs do work, if you want to work at them. You really have to want to improve your life though 12 step program? AA? The point is that I'm trying to stop and see if I can go for awhile cold turkey so I don't get to the point where I need those drastic measures. A lot of you on here are understanding/supportive...thanks...but I swear a couple of you are labelling me an alcoholic based on having a typical day of 2 to 4 drinks AT NIGHT and AFTER WORK, after I've had a FULL DAY of functioning SOBER just fine. I never pass out, I've never blacked out, I never miss work because of a hangover, I've never gotten violent, I've never physically harmed myself or anyone else under the influence, it hasn't taken complete control of my life...a true alcoholic would not be able to go 4 days without a drink unassisted, without rehab IMHO. I am in slight withdrawl but I don't have alcoholic shakes, I'm not sweating, losing weight, suffering insomnia, or unable to carry on with my daily tasks because of withdrawl. Is there NO GREY AREA? Did I mention there are days that I take off from alcohol frequently and that some nights I only have ONE? Damn, at first this thread was helpful...now it's making me want a drink! LOL I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

LOL Well, damn, good for you! You were making it sound like you thought you had a problem. For all of the people on this thread who are like, "eh, it's no big deal, relax". . . well, I AGREE, if the person in question is fine with it and not harming anybody else. Then it's not a problem. It didn't sound like you were fine with it. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!
