That is a far cry from having two glasses of wine with meals. Hmm, that's good to hear. I'm a serious wine drinker and I have about two glasses a night. Sometimes one in the daytime too, if it's nice outside. I'm an American living in Europe. I have to say, that it's MUCH more accepted to have a beer or two (or wine) during lunch, and more later in the evening, than it is in the U.S. It's just what I've noticed after living in both countries for the past 8 years. Alcoholism runs in my family on both sides, and sometimes I do feel like I'm on the borderline. When I'm in the States though, I drink a lot more, and then it's hard liquor too though, because I just have a much better social life there than I do here. I have absolutely no social life here, so I guess that's good for my drinking habits. I just had a neurologist appointment last week and he asked me how much I drank. When I told him about all the wine, he actually said it was good for me, so I do know when I need to watch it though. When the hard liquor comes into play, I can get sort of out of control. during the week I usually try and take one night off (but fail) and tend to have 2-4 drinks a night at home after a long day of work. then...Friday nite it's on and I usually get pretty faded. Saturday comes and I allow myself to start with something around lunchtime or early afternoon then on and off... then...Sunday is my DRANKIN day! I'll allow myself unlimited amounts and then feel like shit that night and then Monday swear up and down I'm gonna stop drinking... now it's Tuesday and I want to drink! But I'm trying to prove to myself I ain't a total alcoholic. HELP! You are an alcoholic. To many day to day alcoholics like to imagine an alcoholic as someone that goes on benders and ends up drinking until they are face down in the gutter pissing themself. This is not the truth, it is the illusion. Most alcoholics drink "just enough too much" daily. They, like my mother, tell themself they are bored or that they just need a couple of drinks to put them to sleep. It's a dependancy. I would advise you to admit you have a drinking problem, because acceptance is the first step on the road to recovery. If you would like to argue your alcoholisim. Please I would love to hear from you next week after you haven't had a drink in one week. I too will not have a drink. But it is simple for me, because I am not an alcoholic. Thanks for the support... I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

It is important to have one day off a week and I always make that Monday to get it out the way. I'll typically have around three glasses of wine a night after work just to relax and because i enjoy it. Fridays and Saturdays I pretty much binge, especially if I go to the football. Many europeans drink every day and dont think anything of it. Dont listen to the puritanical people out there and kill all the joy in the world. However, try not to go too overboard either...lol that sounds SOOOO much like me! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I don't like the criminalzation of myself, nor do I like having to deal with criminal elements to get a little piece of a plant. Couple that with my anti-social tendencies and my moving to a new state, and that equates to no pot for me. If I could get my little baggy a week with no other strings attached I would be a total stoner. I will always be a stoner, even if I never smoke pot again. I wouldn't say you were addicted to smoking the weed. I have drinks every now and again, but I really don't like drinking. I could never replace my weed highs with sloppy drunks. Addiction isn't a state of mind, it's a physical (most people call it chemical) thing. Addicts get a kick out of their preferred drug, a physical kick - chemicals are released in the brain and it makes you feel good. You cannot be a borderline addict, either you are or you're not. I have the addict genes because both my parents do, the likelihood of my getting addicted to SOMETHING (this can be anything, not necessarily a drug) is above 70% so I need to watch out. I know my "drug" of choice and stay away from it, it's painkillers. I've had severe body pains since my teens, psychosomatic in origin. I hate being in pain so much, but the minute I realised that the pills was "it" for me, I got scared as hell and moved away. I do take some pretty weak prescription painkillers because of my pains and restless legs, but that's all. I'm not addicted. In fact, every time I've recognised I'm getting addicted to something (so far only the internet/The Org) I cut down on it until I have control.
If you ask me you're an alcoholic. Most people (and that doesn't mean you're weak, stupid or anything else) cannot handle getting rid of the addiction on their own. I wish you all the best of luck, don't let the monster eat you. Fight it!

Having lived in Germany, Italy , and Spain, I would never have imagine not having wine with lunch (outside of home), ESPEICIALLY if it were a business lunch...usually rather than ordering a glass per person, bottles are ordered for the entire table, but then there are also bottles of table water ordered as well for a sense of balance. The drinking tastes vary by country though, as in Italy, you'd have wine, in Germany, a light pilsner beer, and in Spain, maybe a light beer as well...I've always found that in the EU there are tons more of jet fuel strength expresso consumed than alcohol ...goodness, if we aren't addicted to coffee over here then I don't know what

Because AA has a monopoly on "curing" alcoholism and refuses to allow the American public to think outside the box in regards to moderation versus abstinence.. all this in spite of the fact that AA has a 90% failure rate.... [Edited 5/18/06 15:42pm] Space for sale...
