Nothing to do at work

what do you people do when you are sitting in your office, or at your desk, and you have NOTHING to work on?

That's my answer as well. My posting numbers are directly corellated to the amount of work (or lack of) I have. razz

lol, same here. sometimes i post these really long answers on here
to pretty simple or obvious questions.

i mainly do so because usually i'll be typing a response and some
colleague will be looking at me from across the room (they can't
see my screen since i'm with my back to the wall) and i just keep
typing, looking from my screen back to my "notes" and vice versa.

sometimes i even throw in a "puzzled" look, stop typing, flick a
bit through the papers, look like i'm in deep thought and then go
back to typing.

the best part of all this is that after two hours of orging, you
get to stand up and say "now i'm gonna have to get myself a coffee
because if i keep going on like this it will be midday and i still
won't have taken a break".

Dude, I'm losing my fucking mind right now.
The services/billrate my team provides are so high that the lines of businesses that require our services are not approval our cost estimates.

So I sit here fiddling, shopping online, looking for cheap kayak deals, etc.

It makes me fucking nervous. People may find this shocking, but I like to be busy doing something , preferably important and not busy-work. sigh

I'm the same way dude. We're just slow right now. We had an unusally busy "slow" time of the year, and now we're lagging. Sigh.

Seems like it's that way all around. Things are very slow here at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

I blame it all on the gas prices. mad

i did that once at my old job. had to pretend i had choked myself on a
sip of coffee and launched from the spitting laughter right into a bad
and loud cough, lol.

meantime i tried to change the screen back to my word documents as the
nearby colleague came to pat me on the back

Oh, that seems to happen to me a lot these days! And the fact that I don't have internet access and that I can't talk to almost any of my colleagues doesn't exactly help... I'm just sitting there, sometimes for hours and hours, trying to do something entertaining but inconspicuous. This is what I've come up with so far:

1) In the morning before work, I copy a bunch of news articles, film reviews etc off the internet and paste them into a word document. I then make sure there are no bold-faced headlines or other stuff that could reveal what I'm reading.

2) I sometimes push the computer really close to my chest and open up a Reversi game in a tiny window. If somebody walks by, I click on the document underneath which then covers it up.

3) I write down random thoughts, almost as if I'm writing a diary.

4) I study Japanese (they're actually okay with that).

5) I write lengthy e-mails to people in Word, so that I can copy them into Hotmail when I get home.

6) I keep track of where my money goes by making detailed notes describing my expenses the previous day/week. I also plan how much I can save and spend the rest of the month.

7) I make endless lists of things: the ten greatest low budget movies ever, wishes for my birthday, people I would invite to my wedding if I ever had one etc etc.

Feel free to add more suggestions. I need them! smile

inbetween the pages of the textbook, lol. i started this back at school cuz
i never felt like reading textbooks and would rather read novels instead smile
