game show pet peeves

okay...on the wheel of fortune...why do people always ask for a vowel when they know what the answer to the puzzle is already? don't they know that it costs them money? disbelief
or when they spin the wheel and land on bankrupt even though they've been hogging the board for half the puzzle hmph!

you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

for some reason i can't figure out wheel of fortune for the life of me. sometimes i can solve a puzzle but really the whole show is just a bunch of confusion and sensidyne commercials.

however, on jeopardy i hate it when people don't know obvious answers. like that gwen verdon was in 'damn yankees' and was also the choreographer's (bob fosse) wife. HELLO! how can you be on jeopardy and not know such nerdy things! I thought that a jeopardy requirement was knowing about famous musicals and what not. anyways...

then i spend a good 10 seconds or however long it is until the contestants run out of time, screaming, "GWEN VERDON! GWEN VERDON! GWEN VERDON!" at the television.

disbelief

then i have to change the channel to watch law and order.

This friend of mine in college, Dave, used to watch Jeopardy while his roommate was away at classes, but then they'd replay it an hour later while his roommate was there again, and he'd fire off all of the correct questions while the roommate was astounded by his intelligence. lol

how about Family Feud? they always put the semi-retarded family member at the end, and then look astounded that they can't get any questions right.

question: name a color that is also a fruit
zeke: BLUE!

"We're gonna hav' to say good-bye to Martha & Cyril but don't worry, you won't go away empty handed we'll give you your B.F.H. .....Your bus fare home!" clapping

neutral It bugged me to fuck when Jim Bowen said that same joke every bloody week and the audience laughed their tits off.

Now when I hear that it's quite funny, in a cult comedy kind of way lol

oh my god u and me both! there always seems to be someone who's on The Price Is Right who doesn't know shit, never fails, but it's great if they win. also with The Price Is Right, i hate it when the contestants make it on the stage and they look like they'd rather be anywhere else but there. i mean if that's the case then why the fuck you go on the show in the first place? that's the one game show where you are supposed to go crazy and act the fool yet some of them look like they're constipated. that's no good.

Hey you tell it like it is. biggrin There were couple contestants who, uh, unintentionally revealed a little too much when they come on down after their names were called. I think Bob was talking about that on an anniversary show around 1996.
I wasnt around in 1973 but did you remember Game Show Network used to rerun the episodes? I happened to catch the ones that made in the mid 70s. Seeing those classic convertibles. Bob used to have that dark brown haired before he allowed it to grow white and I forgot the name of that announcer and he came along before Rod Roddy. ANd also I noticed that they used some of the music cues on that show on other game shows that I used to watch such as Match Game and Hollywood Square.
I dont know why Game Show Network doesn't show TPIR and other old game shows anymore.
In the 80s, I also used to watch 25,000 and 100,000 Pyramid, Card Sharks, Classic Concentration, Newlywed Game, Family Feud (with Richard and Ray were hosts),New Hollywood Squares, Jeopardy, Press Your Luck (I even watched that Michael Larson scandal),and Wheel of Fortune.

The 80s was a game show decade and I used to catch them all too. nod

We didn't get the Game Show Network in my town until just a couple of years ago. At least they still play the old Match Game shows. I saw the Michael Larson Press Your Luck show two-parter back when it was first run. woot!

The announcer back then was Johnny Olson. He was actually related to one of my friends I had back in grade school. If I remember correctly, he went to Johnny's funeral.

Yep that is Johnny Olson. I remembered him when I watched TPIR livetime back in the 80s and when I was a kid my moms told me that he died so suddenly when I asked her about what happened to that other guy after I saw Rod Roddy was doing the announcer.
They rerun that Michael Larson episode and there was a commentary about that eposode recently on Game Show Network because they paid a tribute to the host Peter Tomarken pray
