To all those who are trying to lose weight, get fit or just doing exercise for the hell of it - I have much respect. Yes, this thread is really great. This, THIS is what I love the org for. But just the thought of going to the gym or doing it - I don't know what it is - fear, laziness, I'm not sure. How do you break that barrier? All I know is that I want the results but doing it is a different matter. I'd be a millionaire if I had a quid for every single time I've thought about it.
So to all you guys dieting, exercising, pushing yourselves AND looking after yourselves - Keep up the good work. It took me a long time to get up the balls to start working out and watch what I was eating. I was doing really well for about a month, then work got busy and I got sick so I kind of just stopped and fell back into my bad habits. But I think it was Easter weekend that finally did it. I ate all of my Easter candy in a few days and felt completely ill afterwards. Not to mention none of my jeans fit! I could only fit into one pair - the ones that were stretchy, so they could accommodate my new waistline. Anx is right - just fucking get up and DO it. That's the only way around it, really. and good luck, my friend. I mean, like, where is the sun?

i started a weight loss program back in 2002 and have lost over 100 pounds to date. it is hard to keep the willpower to continue but you reap so many benefits in the long run.
some rules i live by: (*) don't beat yourself up if you eat 'bad food' every once in awhile (*) try the 80/20 rule..be good 80% of the time and chill for the other 20 (*) don't try to set a goal too high for yourself. just take your time & be dilligent. (*) try to do SOMETHING physical a few times a week. if you're not an exercise person, then just wash your car or have some crazymad sex or something. it burns calories too to everyone here that is starting or thinking about starting a weight loss program for themselves, y'all deserve mad congratulations. we all deserve to live healthy & fulfilling lives

INSATIABLE said: Pammy, I'll keep it brief.
You've met me so you have a decent idea of how much work lays ahead of me, but I'm not worried about it. I don't think of it as a diet, or even a lifestyle. I just look at it as feeling better and that's what matters most. Asthma's had me by the balls the past few months, and even walking around here at work or to the mailbox at night has me slithering on the floor but it's slowly coming under control with the right inhalers. Now that I can breathe, I have no excuse. Though I can understand (as I used to live by) the mentality of people that say, 'fuck it- life's short, eat/drink what you want, you'll die anyway so be happy now", the reasons behind the ‘belief’ are what I can't pretend to agree with anymore. Instant gratification's like anything else- you need some, but not too much. The pleasure a fat person gets from food is a joke compared to what it feels like to simply have a body in proportion to your height. I loathe what’s become of my body but even worse is what it’s done to my soul. Not trying to be cheesy, but I’m completely out of touch with myself because of how long it’s been since I’ve been happy. Why wouldn’t being overweight do that? Every person carrying around that extra load carries another much heavier and knows exactly what I’m talking about. What’s worse is that I’ve been carrying it for almost ten years. I was a healthy child but problems in my teen years drove me to self ‘medicate’ my depression in a very defeating way. Anyone that can have an appropriate amount of confidence while utterly hating what they look like has my respect, I think. Another thing- the brain’s part of the body too. It’s an organ that needs correct nourishment. And being in this ‘situation’, at least for me, keeps me in a constant grey haze. I remember what I felt like before. I could think clearly, I was eloquent, I was at the top of my class in school. My head’s Jell-O these days. You should see me on job interviews. It’s pathetic. A monster is what I’ve become. When you treat yourself with disrespect, everyone around you suffers. I’ve done things that are dishonest because of this and it’s got to stop now. I’ve already lost twenty pounds. Obviously, I’m nowhere near finished but already feel like a million dollars knowing I might be able to salvage myself in time to fulfill a few of my abandoned dreams. I used to be a sexy daredevil and I can’t wait to find myself underneath this mess of a ‘person’ that people know me as! Good luck and congrats on treating yourself right, Pam. So much for keeping it brief. I wrote loads there, but it was all nonsense. You're one of the most amazing human beings I've ever known or will ever know, and it's as simple as that.

Another good trick is to pick a time when it's not so crowded. There's a 24 Hr Fitness by me & whenever I wanna start back I go @ fucking midnight There's barely anyone there, I don't have a line of people waiting while I figure stuff out, it's a lot less intimidating.

Whenever I work out, I always get little kids saying/asking/telling others I'm a boy. And a lot of times they want to come play with me. (I'm 4'11" so I'm very UN intimidating. ) I think it has to do with my unflattering workout clothes. I mean, like, where is the sun?

I used to way 230 lbs as a high school freshamn back in 92...I was only 5'9 and looked like a Butterball Turkey...
I have weightrained for 15 years and weigh 200 of athletic muscle, but the key to losing weight is consistency For what it is worth, I multiply my body weight by 11 to get my caloric expenditure for the day...as long as you consume under 3500 calories daily, you shouldn't put on weight.... I'm not a doctor , but play one on the org "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

If you want a real good sweat, when you do your cardio, go ten minutes on 3 to 4 different machines(ex. - bike, elliptical, treadmill, stairmaster). Take a 30 second water break and go right to the next machine. It feels great, and makes doing cardio less boring.
