taking dance classes is the best form of exercise ever! if you take a good jazz, hip hop or african dance class trust me you'll be good to go. it's great because you don't feel like you're working out but you are and it's also a lot of fun.

No, seriously. If you lost weight, please come pick it up. I have it in my office chair. I am actually sitting on it right now. Sometimes the weight I found gets between me and the dinner table. Please send me your address so I can mail it out to you.

I'm still down 10lbs since the breakup!! Cigarettes and coca cola for 3 weeks did the trick.

I exercise 3 times a week and eat whatever I want. I'd like to lose another 5-10lbs but I don't see it happening.

when i lost all the weight from getting sick, i learned first hand that weight loss means nothing to me without exercise (or at least more activity than staying in bed every day). when i started getting better, i realized i'd lost tons of weight, but i hadn't been to the gym in over a month and i looked and felt like a rubber band sculpture of the cryptkeeper.

i believe you gotta get that exercise in if you want to lose weight and look good. i think dieting is only half of it - if that much.

I'd still do you.

Anyways, this is true. Dieting below 80% of your required colaric intake cuases your body to lose 40-50% muscle, and 40-50% fat depending on the person. This is why alot of dieters still look flabby or even sickly or bony.

Just a few times a week and you can add significant muscle tone for women, and actualy muscle bulk for men, and this will make anyone years younger and more fuckable.

In washing his hands, he was making a statement that although he had no power to stop it, he was not part of it, it was in fact the Jewish nation that put Jesus to death and not the government. That's the meaning behind the hand washing. It wasn't a bad thing. It was a good thing.

At this point, it's probably no secret that I've been losing weight. As of my last weigh-in I've lost 25 pounds since about mid-January. woot! I rock. But I still have a ways to go.
I'm basically watching what I eat and working out. No real secrets. I'm making healthier choices food-wise and it's also all about portion control. I'm a firm believer in 'everything in moderation', so if I really want, oh, say french fries, I can have them. Just not a whole bunch of them. Twice a week I allow myself to eat whatever (and however much) I want for one meal, so I don't feel like I NEVER get to eat the things I want. For me, the food part is the biggest part of it. I never really thought I ate that much. And when I would compare my eating habits to my friends, I didn't think I ate that much differently from everyone I know. But when I started back in January, I wrote down absolutely everything I ate for a few weeks and realized how much the little things add up. It was a huge eye opener for me.
I'm also a big comfort eater. I eat when depressed, I eat to feel better, I eat for fun. I'm totally a recreational eater. I LOVE food. I considered culinary school even at one point. But it's gotten to be one of my worst vices.
I'm also working out at least 3 times a week at the gym. Over the summer, I may be down to only 1 day in the gym (my beloved lift class) and I'll likely walk the 5 or so miles home from work every day it's nice out.
And I tried to quit smoking in january, but it was all a bit much to try to change at once. I'm gonna try again, probably in June. smile

You are doing it the right way honey. Much success.

I'll add, the first several weeks I was losing 2-3 pounds a week. Then it slowed down to about a pound every other week. But I'm still consistently losing. (Haven't gained a pound back yet!) So I've totally plateaued. As of this last week, I'm trying to kick-start myself back up again. I'm hoping to lose at least another 25 by the end of the summer.
And then I'll REALLY be a hottie. batting eyes
But even if I don't, I'm still happy with the changes I've made. I can tell I totally feel better. And that's the most important part.

You're doing it the right way. Weight training is the best way to lose weight. You shoudl do cardio for heart conditioning and becuase it totally helps with endurance. But the lose weight and tone, weight training is the best.

HOWEVER, the best way to increase endurance is to QUITE SMOKING no no no!
Try quitting smoking and adding a thermogenic supplement at the same time.
It may help with the slump you might feel from withdrawel.

I quit smoking about 6/7 years ago now, and the first few weeks was not all that much fun. But now I can't stand the smell of smoke on people, and smoking is an automatic no-no when I check people out.

I'm glad that you're feeling better. I'm finding that my excercise program is making me feel much better to. It's almost like it changes your personality slightly.

you're TOTALLY doing it the right way. good work! i think when you're getting the right amount of exercise, you tend not to want to eat much more than you need. i mean, there are those days when you just gotta tie on the snack trough, but in general my appetite seems pretty mellow when i'm hitting the gym regularly.

I would also like to recommend these two supplements:

1) CLA (it helps metabolize the food you intake and turn it to energy instead of being turned to fat--I've been taking it for 2 weeks and it is working very well).
2) Ginseng (it helps to protect your adrenal glands from stress)

I really do want to quit, but changing my eating habits at the same time was NEVER gonna work. So I decided to work on that first, and attack the smoking thing later. Which I still plan to do.

What is a thermogenic supplement? lol It sounds spooky.

When you do, just understand that the depression that you may feel is becuase of the withdrawel. Don't get into a slump but fight your way through it. I remember that when I quite, it felt like I was alone--like my best friend had left me lol But, seriously, smoking fills a void in us for some reason and when it's taken away, it can be an unpleasent feeling.

Today, I am sooooo glad I kicked it becuase that shit was expensive and nasty.

INSATIABLE

Pammy, I'll keep it brief.

You've met me so you have a decent idea of how much work lays ahead of me, but I'm not worried about it. I don't think of it as a diet, or even a lifestyle. I just look at it as feeling better and that's what matters most. Asthma's had me by the balls the past few months, and even walking around here at work or to the mailbox at night has me slithering on the floor but it's slowly coming under control with the right inhalers. Now that I can breathe, I have no excuse.

Though I can understand (as I used to live by) the mentality of people that say, 'fuck it- life's short, eat/drink what you want, you'll die anyway so be happy now", the reasons behind the ‘belief’ are what I can't pretend to agree with anymore. Instant gratification's like anything else- you need some, but not too much. The pleasure a fat person gets from food is a joke compared to what it feels like to simply have a body in proportion to your height.

I loathe what’s become of my body but even worse is what it’s done to my soul. Not trying to be cheesy, but I’m completely out of touch with myself because of how long it’s been since I’ve been happy. Why wouldn’t being overweight do that? Every person carrying around that extra load carries another much heavier and knows exactly what I’m talking about. What’s worse is that I’ve been carrying it for almost ten years. I was a healthy child but problems in my teen years drove me to self ‘medicate’ my depression in a very defeating way. Anyone that can have an appropriate amount of confidence while utterly hating what they look like has my respect, I think. Another thing- the brain’s part of the body too. It’s an organ that needs correct nourishment. And being in this ‘situation’, at least for me, keeps me in a constant grey haze. I remember what I felt like before. I could think clearly, I was eloquent, I was at the top of my class in school. My head’s Jell-O these days. You should see me on job interviews. It’s pathetic.

A monster is what I’ve become. When you treat yourself with disrespect, everyone around you suffers. I’ve done things that are dishonest because of this and it’s got to stop now. I’ve already lost twenty pounds. Obviously, I’m nowhere near finished but already feel like a million dollars knowing I might be able to salvage myself in time to fulfill a few of my abandoned dreams. I used to be a sexy daredevil and I can’t wait to find myself underneath this mess of a ‘person’ that people know me as! heart Good luck and congrats on treating yourself right, Pam. wink So much for keeping it brief.
Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Has somebody already started this thread lately? Oh well!

Now that warm weather is approaching or has already arrived, I'm interested in finding out what my fellow orgers are up to, fitness-wise!

I won't name names but I have been very excited and motivated to learn that some of my favorite orgers are really making a huge effort to shed the pounds and better their health!

What does your fitness routine look like? How have your eating habits changed? How is it all different than it was, say, six months ago? Do you see any results?

I've gotten into the habit of playing tennis three times a week. I also do some aerobic exercises in the morning and night. Sometimes I run - I'm going to take the dog out on a job in a few moments. I don't drink beer much anymore, the cigarette smoking is virtually nonexistant, and I try to stay away from fatty foods and enormous portions and late-night-eating. I also don't eat meat much anymore, simply because it's so expensive and I am always skint.

I've also been tanning, which really helps my self-image. thumbs up!

I think I've lost about 5 lbs in the past month. Although I think about a pound came from the fucking infected gland in my neck, which disappeared yesterday. I think I was allergic to Safeway's olive spread. lol

Congrats, keep it up!!!!

I started working out again in 1998 after a long layoff. I got lazy, ate junk food and let myself get out of shape, but those days are long gone. I joined NYSC, and started working out again. But the biggest thing was changing my eating habits. I still eat what I want, but I do things in moderation, and I cut out a lot of the junk(especially Pepsi - now it's mostly water, juice, tea & Fresca). I allow myself ONE day a week(usually Thursdays) to have pizza or BK. I love food, so the temptation's always there. But I worked too hard and spent a lot of money to get back in shape. I can't backslide now. Weight training and cardio is the way to go. And I'm taking a new form of creatine which is kick-ass.

Monday - legs & shoulders

Tuesday - cardio, forearms & calves

Wednesday - chest & triceps

Friday - back & biceps

If you look at eating right/exercising as a chore, you won't stick with it. It has to be a lifestyle change and part of your daily routine. Once you do it without thinking about it, you've won.
