Napoleon Dynamite. Help me, please.

Everywhere I go, I hear how funny this movie was. How memorable the characters and punchlines were.

My coworkers, at least once a month, will reminisce on this waste of celluloid with glee and warmth.

I hate it. I felt extremely let down when I finally saw. Didn't seem half as funny as the previews made it.

What gives? What is the magic of Napoleon Dynamite?

I thought it was overrated too....some parts were funny. I mainly laughed because Napoleon kinda looked like a childhood friend of mine lol

I agree. The film, to put it mildly, fucking blows.

It isn't laugh-out-loud funny but it gives me a nice feeling.

Yeah, he looks like a white, redheaded version of my cousin, at times. That was mildly -- ok, very -- amusing. But, the other parts of it? I could've done without.

I think if it catches you by surprise you'd enjoy it more. BUT when it's been hyped to death it can be a letdown. Watch it again when you have some down time, you might find yourself giggling. But it's not nearly the laugh riot people say it is, enjoyable flick though smile

It's one of my Emperor Has No Clothes films. You know, where everyone tells you "OMG, it's like the best thing EVAR" and then you see it and it's a turd.

I think they did it on a shoe-string budget, and I know they made millions, all with very little fanfare, mainly word-of-mouth. I guess the producers couldn't care less what a few people on some forum say smile

Another Emperor Has No Clothes film: The Blair Witch Project. I was yawnin' all the way through that one. Shaky cameras do not a horror movie make.

I dont think the previews look funny so I doubt this film is for me. He looks like that fucktard out of The Toxic Avenger.

Another thing: Jon Heder is such a goddamn one-note actor. All he's done since this film is play different versions of Napoleon. He has no range whatsoever, and looks and talks like a total dumbass. It may seem like I'm being harsh, but it's the truth. Watch Just Like Heaven or The Benchwarmers, and it's all the same bullshit.

yes! I saw this in theaters when it first came out - before any of my friends had seen it, before most people had caught on. I thought it was very quirky and quite funny! But my enjoyment was soon killed by people over-hyping the shit out of it. sigh

I appreciate its quirk -- the music, especially. If it's a fair representation of an artist's thought or concept, then cool.

The only other film to leave me feeling so unfulfilled (cinematically -- it's not *that* deep lol ) was "I Heart Huckabees." That was horrible.

Yeah, I got sucked in, thinking: "Well, I like his other films..." Oh, goodness.

It reeked. And, it just kept getting worse. What a waste of a cast.

I wasn't going for that premise. Just hearing Steve Martin talk about it gave me the creeps. Some things surpass cliché. Shopgirl seemed like such a film (read "mid-life crisis vehicle").

Another movie I failed to see the importance of was Lost In Translation. Bill Murray has certainly been making a recent career out of playing the Depleted Man, and indeed went on from LIT to play the exact same character in Broken Flowers. I call Sofia Coppola's bluff: The dialogue simply wasn't that deep, the characters simply not that interesting. The only great thing about that film was the ending, which was beautifully handled.

This is frightening because when I went to netflix to add Men Beneath the Sun as mentioned on the horror films thread, I added Shopgirl on a whim cause netflix suggested it and it sounded semi-interesting. Maybe I should go remove it. eek
