would you let someone else become famous/great at your expense?

i'm just watching Barry Bonds over the past few days get nothing but bad pitches in his quest to hit homerun 714. the majority of the opposing pitchers sre b-level talents who won't even be in the big leagues in 2 years. so my question is, if you had a chance to elevate someone else to greatness at your expense, would you do it? no talking about cheating, but at least give the other person a chance to do something good. me personally--i'd throw my best stuff right down the plate--if he's that good (amd he is), he'll take it right out the park. there are worse things in life than being the pitcher who gave up homerun 714 or 715 (and it could be financially lucrative too biggrin )

meaning like, you could be craig ehlo of the cleveland cavaliers--a marginal, average pro basketball player who is known mostly for letting michael jordan pop the game winning shot in the playoffs in the 90's. your face and name are forever etched as giving up the winning shot, but at least people still know who you are biggrin again..there are worse things in life than getting torched by MJ--you'll always be on TV!

let me say something about Baroid Bonds. If I was a manager, he wouldn't get a pitch to hit from me. In fact, I wouldn't even waste four pitches on a walk for his at bats. He would get a 58 mph floater on the hip every time up. There's no doubt he is going to move past Babe Ruth, but it wouldn't be against ME or MY team, that's for sure. He's a scumbag and a cheater. Plus, the fact he did all FOR THE SOLE reason that he was JEALOUS of mark and sammy makes it THAT much worse. I'm also tired of him bringing the race card into play, it mocks the times and people that actually did have to deal with racism.

Oh, for all you Barry supporters, please stop spitting "he's the greatest baseball player ever". He is a great hitter, no doubt, even before the roids, but the man was always an average defensive player at best. rolleyes

Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox now.

yeah he did roids, but so did 50% of babseball players, including sosa, mcgwire, palmeiro,canseco...bonds obviously isn't on roids now, since they are watching him and everybody else like a hawk. if you put an asterisk next to his name, then you gotta put one next to pretty much every offensive record from 1990-2004. MLB could have stopped roids use, but didn't, so don't put all the blame on the players--mlb needed some offensive shows to win back the fans after the strike and they got them wink

I fully agree! I'm a baseball fanatic, and everyone that cheated should be chastised. But there's no way to do it now. In the public eye, no matter what he does, he will never be recognized as the record holder, and he deserves it. Bud Selig is the worst commish ever and I hope he dies a horrible death too.

I saw him play the Chicago Cubs at the stadium last week and was hoping to see it happen. It was only the second Giants game I had been to, so it would have been cool. The build-up in the crowd was pretty fantastic when Bonds got up to bat though. biggrin Then the Giants lost 8-1. pout

Well my job is to be the guy behind the curtains. the one no one hears about but that without him, there'd be no 'on-stage'. So I guess all of the people I've worked with have gotten famous with my help, and I didn't.
