importing my cd's into Itunes.... Now I know why I procrastinated doing this for so long....blah.

I wish I had space to upload some stuff onto my iPod. I'd lose it if I had to upload all of that shit on at one time. It takes forever just to upload one.

That is why I am suffering now...I hate it when I want to hear a cd and its not on my computer...I have to go find the cd...import it to itunes....blah...blah...blah...by time I get done I don't wanna hear the damn song anymore...

i dunno...i like having an actual cd to listen to.

When I first got my IPod I'd load a stack of cd's at once whenever I had time & was just piddling around the house. It took about a month to get everything in there but it's such a relief to know it's already on the hard drive & I can get it on the Pod in less than a minute.

I still have one stack left, but all the important shit is in there. Keep going, it's worth it

i always delete my cds from my computer as soon as i upload them into my mp3 player. is this not common practice? i mean, i still have the CDs, why waste space on my hard drive?

I've got about 40 gigs of music so far. I don't even bother buying cd's anymore, I just get them off the illegal foreign music sites now.

Anx, the reason you don't delete it from your HDD is in case you break or lose your MP3 player! I actually bought a 300G external drive recently, in part to import my music collection in some sort of lossless format. After I do that, I might actually sell my cds.

I wish I had gotten to say this before you started the process.

When I first got my 30GB mp3 player, I rushed to put my music catalogue to digital file so that I could upload it to the player. I chose to make the files basic MP3 128, but after I did I found the sound quality to be less then I desired. So now, someday I have to rerip my cd collection to the highest standards my player will handle.

I mean with a 30GB, and all my albums only taking up about 5GB worth of space at a quality less then I want, the deal is kinda pointless.

I guess if you put absolutely every song you own on your MP3 player it doesn't make sense. BUT for me, who only puts the songs I like from an album onto my tiny 4G IPod, it makes total sense to have my entire music collection stored on the computer as well as on the original cd. I have the option to play music from the Pod OR the computer OR the original cd...

Also, by putting only the songs I like I can play all the contents of the Pod & never hit a song I don't like. It doesn't have to all be organized by playlists.

i've been doing the opposite of you. when i first got my mp3 player, i put most of my CD collection on it, then i started weeding out stuff that i didn't want on there and stuff that i kept skipping when i was listening to shuffle play...but at the same time, i was finally listening to a bunch of albums i'd bought over the years and never really listened to, and i started regularly listening to "new" stuff i'd owned for a long time (love that!).

i honestly don't listen to music on my laptop - i either listen to my mp3 player, my boombox or my stereo - so i don't have any use for music files on my computer unless it's strictly for storage of files i don't have on any other format.

Look, grandpa, cd's are RIDICULOUS. They only have, like, 12-16 songs, usually! And they aren't songs that I chose to put together! I probably don't even LIKE some of the songs! And if I have a random desire to listen to a song that occured to me after I listened to another song, then I have to remember which cd it's on, get up and find it, and SWITCH CDs!

Point being, I never, ever listen to cd's anymore. My iPod or my laptop gets plugged into my speakers or my car stereo. I mostly make playlists (and buy music, for that matter) on my laptop, and then put them on the iPod. My 15G iPod isn't big enough for all of my music even in a low-quality format, so can't just put it there and delete it from the laptop. And the loss/breakage issue is huge to me. It takes a lot of time to import a cd collection (a task I'm not finished with, and have to start over anyway because I want higher quality ripped files). I don't want to do it twice.

PLUS, cds actually do disintegrate over time, and they can also be damaged or stolen. My external drive, when everything is imported, will live off-site, and actually serve as a backup of my cds.

It's about getting away from those damned disks as much as possible.

I am almost half way through my cd's....I have 1175 songs, which is 4.53 Gigs.... I so can not wait till this is done and I can put the cd's in the closest and not have to pull them out again.
