Growing up...

At what point did you 'grow up'?

At what point did you become a man or a woman?

Have you grown up yet?

Was there a specific event?

These'll probably seem like weird questions lol but something I posted yesterday reminded of a few things.

A few weeks back, I went to see the George Michael documentary, 'A Different Story', and - at one point - he discusses the exact moment that he 'grew up'. I can't remember the precise details but I'm pretty sure it was in the week his mother died. sad He described how, overnight, his whole outlook changed and he became a man, so to speak.

Yesterday, I posted something about one of my mates and described her a 'girl'. This 'girl' is 32 in October lol but - even though it's just a phrase - at what point does this become redundant?

I always remember, years ago - when I used to work in this shop - I'd be on the cash desk and some Mum or Dad would come in with their kids and say "Give the money to the man". I'd be, like, '"Where?? Where's this man??!" lurking almost and, of course, they meant me. lol Maybe that says a whole lot more about me, perhaps. smile

So at what point did you grow up?

I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to answer this question but - if I had to choose an event - I'd say the ball started rolling when I went to Uni. nod

She wasn't happy but since I float her house and my house, she left me alone. She tries to give her two cents now and then but I don't take it anymore. I used to just keep my mouth shut all the time. I was over thirty before I felt people in my family treated me as an adult.

I'm not sure I know anyone who thrives on change, hun. You're not alone.

But looking at the woman you turned out to be, I think your Mum would be VERY proud. hug

No kidding - just before I'd posted this thread, I saw your response on another one and I wondered if you would respond to this. And I thought I might get the sort of response you gave.

And you're absolutely right. nod
