Illegal for a woman to have a baby without the man's consent?

I was having this conversation last night with some people and someone said that it should be illegal for a woman to have a child without the man's consent. What do you all think of this?

What about in situations where the husband does NOT want kids and the wife does?

That's NOT answering the question. Because you have sex does not mean a baby should follow suit. Especially against your will. Before you bring up protection.....I know all of those arguments.

Ummm Vasectomy (like I did!) that insures that he will at least have "some" say in future babies... or other birth control items...I mean really...I know this happens, but consent? I don't remember consenting to the "oops" babies we had, but here they are...I love them to death... nod

I don't mean to sound condescending, but it sounds a little silly to me that a woman would need consent to concieve....by him "depositing" his DNA..he consents to whatever happens after that.... (I hate the way that sounds confused )

this is pretty onvious but- for men who don't want children the burden of contraception falls on them. condoms, vasectomies, or not having sex... these ARE options you know.

because technically, when a man ejaculates into a women he has 1) given her a 'gift' and 2) implied consent for the possible procreation of a child

how is it against your will? i feel its up to both parties to be responsible about protection if they know they don't want kids and that should be it. if you rely on the other to protect the both of you and you know that this person wants a baby with you is stupid. protect yourself 'tis all. once the baby is made its in her body and growing and thats when the ball is in her court. what should be done? forced abortion at that point? shrug

I dig.

I just never thought about the way it was stated about consent. I do think it is interesting though. Kids deserve to be loved by both parents and if one is unhappy about the situation it hurts everyone involved. Not to mention the negative side effects it can cause.

Sure, as long as we make it illegal for a man to disappear once a child is born neutral

Jokes aside, that's bullshit. If the dude doesn't want kids w/ whoever he's fucking he better lock that shit up & cum elsewhere...

You are right.
I just find the whole concept of sex, which most people do for the enjoyment, leads to kids as well. How ironic.

Maybe there should be a different body part used ONLY for procreation.

I hear you. That leads me to a second point. Why do so many women accept the anti-abortion movement? I have NEVER understood that. Men should NOT be making laws that effect women's bodies.

But they're usually women who are so blinded by their own religious beliefs (or beliefs in general) that they would sacrifice their lives for the life of an unborn child & they feel everyone should do the same. For them it's probably not about a man making that decision for them, it's about doing what's right in their eyes. And these are women who are ready to make that very personal decision for other women regardless of how they feel about it, so why would they mind? shrug

Don't they "get" that abortion gives them the right to "choose"? I just don't get "it".

What I don't get is how men don't get the labels that women do when they abandon their kids.

Because even if they choose to keep the kid they don't want other women to choose not to. It's all about the kid for them, not the choice...

Are you kidding me?

Deadbeat dads are looked at as the scum of the earth, and rightfully so.

Basically, women have the legal right to choose if they want to raise their child or not, men are not given these same choices. If a man is forced to support a child he did not wish to have, so should a woman (if she decides to not raise it herself.)

Ok, that's putting it really simply. I know it's really much more complicated than that, but I think it's about responsibilty on both their parts. No one should be able to just walk away.
