Check out my Cleveland Cavaliers web site I've spent the last couple of weeks putting this together. Articles including game reports, discussion boards, tons of game photos from the playoffs.
http://www.cavsworld.com/ If you are a cavs fan or even a fan of the NBA, I could use a few more posters to help get it going. If you're not a cavs fan, I'd still like to hear what you think of the site thus far.

It's good but it's a little wide. I have to scroll right to see the whole screen at a 1024*768 resolution, so somebody on an 800*600 resolution would have to scroll even more. Other than that, it's very good.

Thanks for the feedback. I made a couple of changes that should help with this. Let me know if it works better for you now.

Very well done! I am into website making and I am very meticulous and very picky. I...was not hideously annoyed by your website...you see the colors were nice and passive...the spacing was excellent not everything was bunched together...It was clearn and concise...easy to find links....It was fantastic. Good job sir or ma'am. I liked it!

Thanks - I tried to not make it too busy. Some sites have their theme get in the way of their content. I would like to tweak my color scheme a bit to make it more cavs centric. I tried once but couldn't come up with a palette that handled all of the different elements so settled with just putting in some cavs blue and cavs red in the menu headings and the links. I think I should go back and get some shades of cavs gold for the backgrounds.
I also need to figure out how to make buttons look like buttons in windows. [Edited 4/30/06 11:25am]

I've made some revisions. The most recent article is not spotlighted on the main pages, I've expanded by adding sections for the Browns and Indians (but haven't changed the site name or logo yet), and i fixed some display glitches on windows.
I haven't decided if I'm better off staying focused on Ohio area sports (meaning adding an OSU section as well) or if I should expand to something wider than that.

Yep, it all fits on the screen at once now. I like how all the info and links you need are on the main page. I hate websites with faffy, confusing homepages.

Hey Alan, are you from Cleveland? Just wondering, since I live there. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I'm 60 miles south of cleveland. The pictures on the site are ones I took at the game - 134 photos from the first two games. I only get pictures from the the home games. I have some more from those games I might upload later tonight - and have a bunch from the regular season I'm going to upload at some point. The pictures are good for getting hits on my site, but thus far not so good at getting people to sign up and post on the forums.

I started with this http://www.xoops.org and made some custom changes Cool. I tried that one out a while back, but it looks like they've updated it quite a bit recently. There's a whole bunch listed at http://opensourcecms.com. They even have demo installations, so you can try out all the admin area's of the scripts.

I didn't look around too much - I did a little research and tried a couple out and XOOPS was the easiest to get going with. I'm a programmer so I figure I can customize it to work like I want it to. I've already made a few tweaks. The next thing I'm working on is fixing the poll module so it shows the results of the poll instead of the poll itself for people who have already voted. After that I think I'm going to work on a better theme - the one I use now is okay, but I'd like something that gives it a little more personality without being excessive. And perhaps consolidate a little screen real estate. I'm also trying to figure out a strategy to get more people to register and post on my message boards. that part has been slower to get going than I would have expected. I'm getting hundreds of visitors/day but only a few are registering and fewer still are posting.

I made some more changes to my site if anyone wants to take a look. It finally seems to be taking off a bit - I made a trip up to detriot for game 1 and took photos there. Now lots of pistons fans are visiting my site too and I broke my records for both number of visitors and for number of page views yesterday. I also opened up my own store and made an original 2006 playoffs poster. [Edited 5/9/06 10:17am]
