"La Cage Aux Folles" vs. "The Birdcage"

"The Birdcage" is a remake of "La Cage Aux Folles" but which movie do you like best? I like "La Cage" better but they did a very good job with "The Birdcage".

i hate when robin williams does his gay character and nathan lane's eyes disturb me, so i'll go with the original cuz it reminds me of being a kid and sneaking peeks of it on HBO.

Do you think The Birdcage is offensive? I know lots of homophobic people who liked it. I haven't seen La Cage 1 or 2.

I know it's very stereotypical but I don't find it offensive. There are some gay people out there that actually act like that so most of my gay friends find it humorous because we all know someone that fits each character.

Even though many gay people get a kick out of the movie, many homophobic bastards get a kick out of it also for all the wrong reasons. That's just a disadvantage we can't help. As far as offensive and degrading goes, "The Jerry Springer Show" has got to be the most offensive and degrading I have seen. While those people are up there fighting on his stage, I wish they would kick his ass.

I'll go for original. The Bridcage was good...not great

It also came in a time when you couldn't turn around without running into a gay movie with straight people in it.

I haven't seen the original, but I love "The Birdcage". My school does drag shows called The Birdcage every year where they have drag queens come and perform diva songs. Even for students those show were hard to get into, they'd sell out so fast.

No. I think The Birdcage drew in a wide audience with promises of stereotypical nellie gay humor, but I think the actual movie went deeper to the extent that it wasn't offensive. I just meant to say that where my nervous system is concerned, Robin Williams' gay character grates on me.
