And the interior looked exactly like this: Beautiful Italian car, body designed by Pininfarina... it was a wonderful car... when it ran. Owning it taught me a lot about doing minor repairs yourself. It's been said that "Fiat" stands for, "Fix it again, Tony." As much as I loved it, I strongly suggest buying a Miata instead and saving yourself the headaches and expenses that come with owning a Fiat. That is a fuckin' beautiful car, though. If I had enough $$ that I didn't mind having to keep up with the repairs, and if I could tolerate having a car that small. . . I think it's a lot yummier than the Miata. Except for the color. Who ever thought THAT was a good idea? oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Beautiful enough that the design was used from 1966 to 1985 (albeit with minor changes). How many of today's car designs are going to have a 20-year life? if I could tolerate having a car that small. . .
As I recall, the interior had slightly more room than that of a Miata. And unlike the Miata, the Fiat Spider had something of a back seat. At least for the cars exported to the U.S., it was officially a "package shelf" (perhaps due to the lack of seatbelts), but it was shaped like a back seat and even had floor mats. Except for the color. Who ever thought THAT was a good idea?
Well, it was a 1981 model. I'm guessing earthy colors were still somewhat popular back then. Anyway, here's the funny thing: after I sold the car, it wound up in the hands of someone who refurbished it. One of the things he did was repaint it with the exact same color of Fiat paint. I love the fiat spyder I think it had more style than the alfa spyder which is also a beutiful car. I think a car that needs constant regular maintenance would be fun right now. As I understand it tha lack of maintanace is why owners felt the cars always broke down. My jaguar is that type of car, but with a V12 engine it is just mind boggling to work on, parts are high dollar, and anything I have to buy or do to the engine I have to buy or do 12 more times. Since I bought my Alfa 164L (swore to my wife it is the last four door I will buy in my life) I have wanted another Italian car I doubt a fiat would offer the type of performance my Porsches did, but the tickets started piling up anyways. :OjitheFanKeybumpersticker:

I'd call that shade of brown less "earthy" and more "pukey". So, do you think the package shelf would have room for my 95lb dog? Not that I'll be getting a different car anytime soon, just curious. . . oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Oh, absolutely. I used to put people who were bigger and heavier than your dog back there. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
