I have a friend who has one. It's nice, but not earth shattering. I'm waiting to see if the PS3 is all they are promising.

I do, and YES, IF you have a hi-def tv and are into gaming X-Box 360 is worth it. But since there aren't too many games out for it, if you're just on a regular tv you can hold off.
"Call of Duty 2" and "Oblivion" have been worth getting the system for. They're both about the best FPS games ever. "Oblivion" is especially addicting if you like FPS/RPGs. The 360 also rips and plays burned cds and dvds. Always pissed me off that the PS2 didn't. X-Box Live is great too.

I have a hi-def screen but does the 360 actually have a true hi-def output (HDMI)? my friend says it only runs through a composite connection? Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... But the difference between the 360 and any other console system is huge on a hi-def tv. And the video quality is better than the dvd player we were using before. The PS3 will be true hi-def, but that probably won't be around for another year.
