Agreed in many cases: I think the shot where the x-wings go by Yavin on the way to the Death Star was so much better and more real looking with models then in the CG one... check it out... the CG one looks like illustrations are flying by. mad

plus the danger with CG is they start moving the camera around in these exaggerated moves that completely destroy any feeling of physical reality. Now, Spielberg knows how to use CG tastefully like in War of the Worlds (the scene where they first rise up out of the street is amazing)... he uses CG in a very physical way.

Lucas kind went crazy with CG in his revisionist versions of the original trilogy, but he did well in most cases in the new ones (except for all the CG creatures which have no feeling of reality, but harken back to Jason and the Argonauts)

To take this back to Prince... at the Xenophobia event, I went up into the little break room pool table area one morning when it was briefly opened to the public, and among the videos by a little tv in front of a couch was.... "Jason and the Argonauts". lol

thumbs up! I agree with everything you said. That's why I will buy the originals.

BTW, just to show you how convincing the effects were, I actually had a friend who tried to tell me that they went into outer space to film the Star Wars movies. I am dead serious. This was when I was like 8 or 9 and my friend was the same age but kind of dumb. Even then I knew he was wrong.

I hated arguing with other kids, way back then, about how stormtroopers were not supposed to be robots. I would argue that "how did Luke And Han dress up in the suits then?" I think many kids thought Darth Vader was a robot too. mad

I have some tapes lying around here somewhere from footage of some Prince projects ("Glam Slam Ulysses" and some video montages I think from 1992-1994) that incorporated footage from that movie... It seems to me Prince has/had a huge hardon for Greek Mythology... (considering Apollo/Apollonia)

I used to have those same arguments! I'd get rather frustrated, ESPECIALLY if they thought Vader was a robot! I'd point out that it was highly unlikely that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a student who was an android.

Hehehe, could very well be considering Prince used some and even had someone make some of those really awful special FX (sure, I guess pretty cool for the 1950's/1960's) for some of his own projects...

But about those OT Star Wars releases, that's some pretty awesome news (although expected http://groups.google.com/...e0116f9751 )
And are those upcoming alterations to the new ones for real or just pending?

You KNOW Prince has his fair share of delusions of grandeur...

Apollonia means literally "of Apollo"...

"Appolonia" was inspired by Appolonia and her breasts in the Godfather. Some of the footage he used in the Glam Slam wallpaper was from that 80's fantasy/horror movie "The Gate"

For real?

Some of the footage he used in the Glam Slam wallpaper was from that 80's fantasy/horror movie "The Gate"

Not that footage, the footage I'm talking about is from one of those old Sinbad movies (some of it was used for "Glam Slam Ullyses") and some footage of this one eyed beast fighting this little dancer figure...

Just rumour, for now. In fact, I first read that alterations list BEFORE the first batch of DVDs was released, so it's basically just a wish list. I know work is being done on the saga for the HD release, but nothing has been confirmed. From what I've heard, it's mostly just special effect touch-ups.

The horrid Yoda puppet in Episode I is being replaced with a CGI, which is good. Rumour has the Yoda/Qui Gon scene from Episode III being developed as well (this is the main one I hope to see).

I hope the rumor is true that Star wars will not have episode IV , A NEW HOPE, tacked on the beginning. That has always bugged me, cause I saw it 4 times in 1977, and it did not have that shit on there.

You sure about that? I saw it many times in '77, and I do remember seeing Episode IV/A New Hope in the title.

"Episode IV: A New Hope" was added to the crawl after production began on Empire. It wasn't in the initial theatrical release.

I haven't seen the released DVD of Episode III (yet) but I thought (hoped) this was in it, so the released DVD of Episode III is just the theatrical release or does it have any extra scenes spliced in?

Just the theatrical release. The Yoda scene wasn't even included with the deleted scenes.

My understanding was that work was done on it, but it originally just had Liam as a disembodied voice. Lucas didn't like the way the scene played, and wanted to wait until he could get Liam to film it, so Qui Gon can be seen as a Force ghost.

Guess I'll have to wait for the HD, BluRay, whatever release of it then...
Or just wait till Lucas dies so he can't fuck with them anymore...

How much is nostalgia worth?

This September: Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD
May 03, 2006

Fans can look forward to a September filled with classic Star Wars nostalgia, led by the premiere of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game and the long-awaited DVD release of the original theatrical incarnations of the classic Star Wars trilogy.
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first.

This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st. International release will follow on or about the same day. Each original theatrical version will feature Dolby 2.0 Surround sound, close-captioning, and subtitles in English, French and Spanish for their U.S. release. International sound and subtitling vary by territory.

"Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we're very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars. Topping it off with a new interactive adventure makes September 12 a red-letter day for Star Wars fans."

That's also the day fans will be able to experience the LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game, the action-packed sequel -- filled with tongue-in-cheek humor -- to one of the best selling video games of 2005. To see the trailer to the new game from LucasArts and TT Games, click here!

Oh, the demand is definitely there. Lucas is basically bowing to fans who have complained endlessly that the original editions weren't available.
