It happened to me just the other day - I liked it! boxed I was so warm and toasty and I couldn't move and I thought it a great excuse to stay in bed.

Do you mean you awake, feeling paralyzed for a few moments after waking?

During REM sleep the body is literally paralyzed. If the body and the brain are out of sync - disconnected - and you wake up on the very verge of going into our out of an REM sleep cycle, you will experience the paralysis -- an experience which while scary, is not harmful or serious.

Are you under stress during the times this happens to you? Do you have insomnia or any other sleep problems?

stress.. at times but who doesnt. i dont really have any other sleep problems thou. it mostly happens just as i am falling asleep i feel like i can't move and have to concentrate to get out of it.

nod i get that sometimes, not often but usually when it happens it happens several times in a row and then stops, my mom says the witch is ridin me lol (like in that thing applekisses posted) hasn't happened in a while tho (thank god!)
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

sometimes when i'm sleeping i'll be having a dream that i want to wake up from but i can't open my eyes for the life of me. that usually happens if i'm taking a nap in the middle of the day when i should be studying or doing something else.

What most of the people on this thread have posted about is NOT a warm and toasty experience. It's a terrifying medical condition that is related to panic disorders. It can cause tremendous stress and loss of sleep for the people who experience it.

in '94-'96 I iused to get this. It was the most HORRIBLE TORTURE. You are going buck wild in your brain, even think you are calling out for help, but you are paralyzed. If your face is in the pillow, you are terrififed that you are suffocating.

You pray someone will come and just push you a bit, just one push to break the spell.

I had a roommate in college who suffered from this. Sometimes he would be asleep and rolling his body against the wall like he was trying to wake himself up. It was kinda scary. I asked him if there was anything I could do, like trying to wake him up somehow, and he said no, it was something only he could manage. There was a common medical name for it, I haven't seen it in this thread so far, but I can't remember it for the life of me....Saint _____ Disorder....? Grrr, Google here I come...

nod yep this has happened to me a few times before and it still happens now. This is why when I go to sleep i either put the tv on mute or turn it off, because when i use to fall asleep with the tv on with the volume still up, it would happen a lot, like i would try to get up but couldn't move anything. It's really scary and i hate when it happens. To get out of it i have to relax myself and try to act like i'm going back to sleep so that when i do wake up for real, i can get actually get up.

once it happened twice to me, i was trying to get up and couldn't so i went back to sleep waiting for myself to "actually" wake up, and i did, but then i drifted off back to sleep again and it happened a second time. disbelief
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

disbelief i'm disturbed at how you find it exciting, because I don't. waking up and looking around without being able to use your limbs or anything is scary.

It definitely sounds scary. Sounds like it could be related to anxiety or depression.

I HATE this. IT is the scariest feeling because it always feels like something else is there with you and you are vulnerable because you want to move or wake up and protect yourself and you can't

Panic disorder is characterized by sudden episodes of overwhelming anxiety (panic attacks) that often include a number of physical symptoms such as sweating, racing heart and shortness of breath. During an episode, individuals often believe they are having a heart attack or going crazy. Attacks may occur during sleep and, like sleep paralysis, may be extremely frightening.

I have had all of those symptoms/thoughts during this. Sometimes I can barely breathe and it feels like I'm dying. sad

I'm not sure...maybe medication or therapy since it's related to panic disorder.

Is it for sure related to panic disorder? I used to have panic attacks all the time when I had my stinky appendix in me but after I had it removed, I don't have them as much. I still have this experience at least once a month maybe more nod

There is increasing evidence that the two are related. There's some good info here...
