Ok here's a topic i've often wondered about. Lately the word "ghetto" has taken on a new meaning and life of it's own. I believe the original meaning was a slumb or an area where less fortunate people live (dare I say predominantly minorites). Anyway, lately everyone and their mother uses that word and I know what they mean? For example when someone says "yo, it's mad ghetto in here" I guess they meaning it's not exactly the Hamptons. What I do wonder when using that word is, are people refering to blacks and hispanics? I hope i'm making sense...

I don't use it in reference to race at all. It means poor. Like, if you're smoking weed out of a pipe made out of aluminum foil...that's ghetto.

If you're eating ramen noodles for dinner, that's ghetto.

If you're drinking the cheapest beer possible, that's ghetto.

There is a gay area in the city of the port of LA that is referred to as the gay ghetto and it's a nice area so I have no idea what other ways that word is being used.
