Fathers should absolutely be there.

Not only is it one of the most miraculaous and humbling things a man can witness, but it gives you a new respect for women, and what they go through to keep life going.

Thank you so much, I must have said the same thing a thousand times that day, she's literally about 7 hours old there. We used that as the photo to send to everyone. I kept saying "I'm not saying it just because she's my daughter, she REALLY is beautiful!!' LOL

I dont see any reason why men shouldnt be there, its a very Victorian attitude - you cant see your wifes/girlfriends/god-forbid-any-other-womans's body! Because thats all it is...

Funny story! When my Grandmother was having her eldest, my aunt, whos now 57, it was a very long and difficult birth. She was in labour for at least a whole day, a long time anyway. My Papa wasn't really required to stand there for 30 hours or so, so he went for a wander for a bit. He didnt return until the next day. Everyone thought he had gone to the pub to wet the baby's head, but he had gone to sit in the church because he was so worried, and got locked in all night!! Bless him, he felt awful lol

I'm not going romantacize it by saying that it is a beautiful experience.

It's a traumatizing, stressful, painful, and often tense experience. But (I'm going to sound like the raving Buddhist again), when the baby is finally born, and the room erupts in tears and jubilation, that part is beautiful, becuase at a very very basic level, the fragile nature of life and the obvious miracle of what it takes to give birth to it, becomes appearent in a way that can't be described except by experiencing it. Every selfish and greedy adult in that room is transformed into a protective being who only wants to bestow compassion on the newborn.

I walked in just after my first nephew was born, and saw the afterbirth, saw the bloody baby, and saw an exhuasted younger sister of mine lying there looking relieved, and I swear to God, it was the first time in my life I felt the presence of something devine. The very first time.

Men confound me, the way we've bought off on social norms of how to behave towards women, and towards ourselves. disbelief I mean, most of our fathers barely even know who we are.

Whover that idiot is that made that statement about being in the bar has my sympathies.

Not if they still want to have sex with their woman. A friend of mine witnessed it and it turned him off his wife. And I have heard plenty of the same about other guys. hell it's a turnoff seeing a woman pregnant. never mind seeing her give birth. disbelief

why? should women hide until the baby is due and then sneak into hospital and give birth because losers like you cant handle it?

Try being a man, I know its hard for you...but give it a try.

I am not a man because i don't think pregnant women are attractive?? That makes no sense. They can go anywhere they want. I was just saying that it's a turnoff. relax.

I've seen three births and I wouldn't go back and change my being there. But it's not a spectator sport! And I had it the easiest in the room!

Has that to do with childbirth or does your friend just think he's Sigourney Weaver?

alright, i will modify. your friend is an immature idiot who should be barred from reproducing his immature and stupid ways, and pity the girl who was unfortunate enought to bear his retarded seed.

i mean, seriously, how old are you and he? 14?

you're not a man and discussing why you are not a man is pointless as you are too dim to comprehend anybodys point of view but your own.
