(April 27, 7:15PM ET) -- Rosie O'Donnell will be named the newest co-host of The View, replacing the exiting Meredith Vieira, the TV show 'EXTRA' has learned exclusively.


ABC is expected to make the official announcement Friday, April 28.


Connie Chung, Patricia Heaton and Soledad O'Brien also were reportedly up for the job.

Considering what Rosie has said recently about Star Jones, the two of them together on the same program could make for a very interesting dynamic.

I would have preferred Soledad...or any of the other 2. Rosie is entertaining, but she's just so damned LOUD...and we already have Joy Behar for that

Not a Rosie fan. But I don't watch the View and I'm not in their target demo. Still, I was surprised. But I'm also surprised they are letting Katie Couric anchor the news since she has no real news experience. Things that make you go wtf.

i LOVE ro! her show was one fo the few things i watched every day.

I don't even know what kind of show The View is, but Soledad O'Brien is one of my favorite people on earth. I've met a couple of people who've been interviewed by her over the years, who say she is even friendlier off the screen than on.

Of course she does, Pumpkin; she began her career as a reporter in Washington D.C. for CNN, then afterwards had jobs as a contributing anchor reporter for the NBC Nightly , & NBC Dateline before she got the TODAY Show gig...

i feel like rosie's personality is too big for her to be on a show with other people. i think she would do much better with her own show. maybe she should start that up again and be in competition with ellen. although i think i like ellen more.

I don't know how I feel about this. I love ROSIE but I don't know if she's going to fit in .
