The sound quality on my 60 gig ipod is pretty good, butI can't get any bass. Would it help if I got new headphones?

Having had both that and an iPod video...

The sony has far better sound quality (by miles) and battery life, but absolutely awful software for transfering songs.

The iPod is the exact reverse.

Absolutely, Sony has a decent priced pair that are great to boost the bass quality on the ipods.

Sony MDR-EX71SL - $40
The ubiquitous EX71s... love 'em or hate 'em is the prevailing attitude. Personally, I kinda like these phones. They're totally low-fi... bloated bass and midbass, recessed midrange, exaggerated highs, but they sound "groovy." These are the budget groovalizers of canalphones and it shows in their sound. These phones benefit TREMENDOUSLY from burn-in; I used to hate them to death but I've recently listened to a pair that my best friend Nika has had for over a year and I was shocked at how groovy they sounded. After a good lengthy burn in period, these phones can compete with MD33s and E2cs in the realm of low-priced canalphones. Recommended, but make sure to burn them in for around 100-200 hours before serious listening. Like the MD33s, these do not isolate very well and fit is fairly loose. The annoying "neck-chain" cord comes back again and tends to pull the right-side phone out of one's ear when not using a remote. Also, the supplied extension tends to make the cord fairly long to the point of being difficult to manage. A carrying case/cord wrapper is included with them, fortunately.

Sony's latest version of Connect is a joy to use. They corrected the crap that used to make it a pain in the ass to use in the past.

There are setting on your ipod that can increase the bass, but the sound it self may get a little too quiet.....

Im not sure if getting new headphones would work, cause i've had like 4 different ones with my ipod and i couldn't really tell the difference, but up to U biggrin

You seem to know a shitload about these. I have no idea what 'burn in' means, though. Is that how long you have to listen to them before they sound best?

I'm sure I know just enough to be dangerous, but didn't Sony used to make you convert all your mp3s if you got their player? I wouldn't want to do that.

Its where the diaphragms loosen up through use, its how the headphones are intended to be made

Yeah, I'm kind of a geek when it comes to music and tech and shit. To burn in some new phones, just plug them into your computer as if you were going to use them, load up as much music as you can, turn the volume up to half or three quarters, and just let it play for 100-200 hours. The difference is like night and day. I have those buds and the sound is just like it says, it should help with your lack of bass. I use a different type from Japan, but my Sony player has an EQ so I don't have a problem with the bass. They are ready to introduce some new ones soon, I can't wait to import them and listen!!
