i agree. i just start to foam at the mouth when i hear someone
mention it and lose all sense of nuance and reason. it's just
one of my irrational pet peeves.

I've heard about it, but the idea of a character named Horseshoe Fat
and the semi-SF meandering put me off it

is this one of 2th9's recommendations?

They're all good, but they're all worse than the first one you read, because they're all basically the same book!

yeah, it's crap

razz

actually, i enjoyed it more than DDC.

but perhaps it's just because i am rather a pretentious ponce
when it comes to books. i mainly read the great writers like
dostoyevski, gogol, the brontë sisters, nabokov and such and
if it has to be contemporary it will be saramago, rushdie and
eco. plus stuff like kafka, proust, hemmingway, plath etc.

i rarely talk about it to people because i simply enjoy those
books. i don't pretend to know the deeper meanings of many of
them but i just really like reading them.

so i guess i kind of spoiled myself for light literature from
that point on. i really want to understand the appeal of the
nicci french novels and such but they're just not exciting in
the way a true great classical novel usually is.

i know that sounds like elitist bs but it's not meant to be,
it's just what i enjoy reading.

however, the way i talk about dan brown probably is stupid and
condescending lol, but hey, i'm only human and sometimes you
just have to hate on someone

lol

but yeah, Digital Fortress is kinda cool. and you can just tell
that it will be a movie some day, which i will go and see, for
sure hehe.

if you want to read a book about Jesus that is so beautifully
written that every line seems like poetry, try looking for

"The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" by José Saramago

it's purely fiction but it's so damn beautiful that it made
my eyes well up at times simply from astonishment at that
man's ability to describe scenes. absolutely astounding.

Its one of mine, 9s read it and likes it ( I think) it didnt have pictures though so maybe not. hehe.

His name is Horselover fat and horselover is Greek for Phillip, anyhow its a pseudonym. Theres SF in it but also so much more...I think its a book you either love or hate, I love it. The reason I mentioned it is because it discusses Gnosticism and the Gospel of Thomas.

why was the ending disappointing?

I have always wondered that?

Is it cos she is one of Jesus' ancestors, and you found that far fetched, or cos it ended abruptly, or other?

it's the fact that you can see the end coming a mile off. because of
the way it's written and all fingers point in one direction.

having read holy blood holy grail years before it was clear that the
end would be the revealing of at least one of them to be a decendant
of christ.

disbelief

the same thing goes for "Digital Fortress", it's a nice enough book
up until about halfway and then you just know how it's gonna end in
every detail.

although i have to hand it to Dan Brown, he manages to end each and
every chapter with a bit of a cliffhanger and it does make you keep
on reading, even if you wouldn't really want to.

i think he's crap to be honest, but he's a master at making you read
his crap

nod

THAT's the ending? disbelief Way lame.
