Do you ever...

watch a tv program even though it's in a foreign language? no subtitles?

I don't have cable and there's not much for afternoon tv, but I've stopped at the local spanish language station and there's some kind of high school soap opera on. I really wish I could understand what they are saying. Everyone is so attractive. I couldn't change the channel. giggle

I watch the station once in a while in hopes I'll start absorbing the language and eventually begin understanding. So far, no good. neutral

i try to watch french tv as much as possible
i speak french and read and write it but sometimes, depending on what type of french is being spoken, its HARD to understand! omg

so it's a matter of training your ears...and because of that sometimes i can tune into spanish tv giggle it's all latin, so you can feel your way around in the dark for a bit

until you get totally confused and give up lol

at about 1 pm when there's nothing else on, i sometimes find
myself watching some weird french or italian talkshows where
i don't understand more than 2 or 3 words every now and than
but i still keep watching it. it's hypnotising.

There was a girl I worked with and she lived in Korea and her English was great

I asked where she learned it from and she said CNN

she just learned hard core, from scratch.. i dont know how that works, but it must do, and I suppose its the best way of learning a new language - being thrown in at the deep end.

The fact she had the dedication to learn is a credit to her

and yes i loveeee foreign films/programmes, and have seen many without subtitles, but please give me subtitles for an easy life.. cool

Having said that, I learned a whole lot of French, whilst doing my exams by going to sleep with a French tape on, and listening through headphones.. I am soo sure that works nod

One night i watched some foreign nightime soap opera that had nudity and everything. Only because there was a drop dead beauty on the show.

Oh my God yes!!!

I watch Mexican soap operas, although I speak fluent Spanish. I love the Indian and Phillipino soap operas as well. Those I can't understand.

I also watch some of the Japanese variety shows with boy bands and stuff. They are sooooo great.
