I can't even sit upright for more than 20 minutes, so I don't wanna take a shower just to go to the store for some ginger ale and apple juice and some saltines. Can someone please bring them to me? Do any of you live alone? What do you do when you're sick? Sorry you don't feel well. Carrie, is it possible that there's a small market that would deliver the items to you?...you don't know till you ask Hope you feel better. If your stomach is upset, stay away from the ginger ale..that only works if youre nauseous and you have to let it go flat before you drink it if you are nauseous...either way, the carbonation isn't good for you. Apple juice will also upset your stomach because it's hard to digest. Stick to water and weak tea..

And I love ginger ale and apple is one of the least acidic fruit jucies. So there. But I AM feeling a bit better today. |

It does suck. It's the worst thing about living alone (hell, maybe the only bad thing about living alone that I can think of ). I've been sick too. . . icky bad. . .some kinda flu thing. . . I feel like hell. . .and I felt my worst Friday night. My boyfriend had plans, which he had invited me to join in on, but I sent him an email saying I was really sick. He didn't get the email, and called me later asking if I was going. I was like, "uh, no, I'm sick". He was like, "oh, that sucks. Well, I'll call you before I go to bed." I hung up the phone and burst into tears. And then promptly called Martin (my friend/ex), who immediately headed over. I'm used to having a partner, and while I like being on my own most of the time, I really appreciated that Martin sorta fell back into that role when I wasn't feeling well. As for Boyfriend, he felt really bad the next day when he read the email and found out that Mar had come over to take care of me. . . he didn't get how icky I felt. He really had nothing to feel bad about; he ain't my husband, and it's not his job to baby me. But, still. . . I don't think many people want to be sick alone. Feeling any better, girlie? I'm used to being alone and doing things alone and all of that. But when I get really, really sick it reminds me that I don't always want to BE alone. And it makes me sad. That and I've been missing a particular someone lately, so you know how that goes. How nice of Martin to run in and help. My friend Joe brought me some of the things I needed. Joe is nice. I've been able to keep food (crackers and soup, that is) down since last night, but I still feel unstable. If I move around too much my tummy gets all rumbly and I have to lay back down. But I have been enjoying some yummy ginger ale. I love ginger ale. I don't normally allow myself sugared sodas these days, but when I'm sick I get all the ginger ale I want. I totally understand. Dunno. . . my job involves going through hospital discharge records, and they usually say, "discharged home with spouse" or "discharged home with family". . . the ones that say "lives alone, needs Home Health Care" or "lives alone; friend in area can help" . . . it makes me think about why people partner up. Not only for the practical assistance when we need it, but because we don't want to go through life alone, especially when it's not all sunshine and roses. Aaannyyway, it's good that you're keeping some food down. I like ginger ale when I'm sick too. . . I think it's because it's mild, and getting your blood sugar up feels good when you haven't been eating much. Drink up. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

7-Up is a very friendly thing to drink when I'm sick. I was given that when I was a little kid, and to this day I think of it as the soda I have to drink when I'm not feeling well. I think it's more because it represents my mother's comfort and caretaking that it makes me feel good, rather than any kind of ingredients. But I've heard other people swear by it, so who knows.
Since I've been sick this time around, I've also been into Campbell's vegetarian vegetable soup. I just pour it in a big mug and try to slowly polish it off while I'm in bed watching TV or reading. It doesn't seem to hurt my stomach. I hope you find stuff that agrees with your stomach that you can even enjoy a little.

I keep diet 7up in the house fairly regularly, but I actually needed something with calories. I think I associate ginger ale the same way you do 7up. Cause my mom always bought it for me when I was sick. That and I always get gigner ale when I'm flying. So it's always associated with good memories. I think I'll have to get some of the soup you mentioned. I had my friend bring me chicken noodle (out of habit) but I think I'm more of a veggie than I'd like to believe these days. Cause the chicken chunks in the soup really kind of grossed me out. Could be that I'm sick too. But vegetable soup sounds divine right now. |

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the no-chicken either. I don't actually love most of the Amy's soups that much, for how pricey they are. Cheap = good.
