I didn't care for the movie.
I turned it off after about 30-45 minutes of watching it. If I recall correctly there was very very little dialogue and it didn't start until just before I turned the movie off. To me Lynch is tyring to be wierd for it's own sake.

I couldn't watch it all either. It was awful, but not the kind of awful you can laugh at- just "wtf awful". Total waste of time. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

Actually, 'Eraserhead' is a scathing, satirical look at patriarchal institutions in western society, symbolized by the surreal terror of fatherhood experienced by the protagonist. The lack of dialogue exemplfies the old-fashioned "strong and silent type" portrayed throughout cinematic history while also showing the horror of emotions felt but not expressed beneath the macho surface.
Eh, who am I kidding, I just made that shit up. 'Eraserhead' makes no freakin' sense whatsoever.

Go ahead and rent it so you can talk about it.
It's not scary, just REALLY weird. There are many interpretations, but it's basically the tale of a random working-class guy who's slowing stewing in his own overworked, angst-ridden, unfulfilled and poorly executed life in a post-industrial world. Imagine watching someone else's VERY VERY unusual nightmare, and you got Eraserhead. ...But, yeah, no one knows what the heck it really is saying. [Edited 4/20/06 20:08pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

The director, himself, said that in 29 years he's NEVER read a review of the film where the reviewer actually "got" it. [Edited 4/20/06 20:24pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I've seen it many a time and it makes me laugh out loud. There are such long drawn out moments that it is comical - ie. when the girl tries to get her suitcase out from under the bed has me in stitches

Go see it, just for the haircut alone. It's not about anything important, none of his movies really are, but it is a great unique art piece, an altered reality kind of experience.
Plus if you're familiar with his later work, it's interesting to see his early work. His film school short films "Alphabet" and "Grandmother" are equally non-sensical...and well, I love them. Also, Eraserhead has GREAT SOUND. It was also shot on 4X -- a now-discontinued black and white Kodak film stock that required very little light and was extremely grainy and high contrast. Look at it as an industrial nightmare, nothing more. You won't enjoy it, but you'll remember it. And if it's calling you...that's a sign that you better follow the call...
