Everybody makes a big deal about how giving and personable Oprah Winfrey is, based on her very powerful charisma, which is not in doubt. But, I look at how she structures her show, where her guests will come on and tell her how great she is or how giving, or how moral, or blah, blah, blah. She sets up these situations, but doesn't seem at all embarrassed about them. And our cult of personality cannot seem to see through her shallowness. She gives a little bit of money away and we want to give her the queen's throne. But is she really the great person she pretends to be?

Her show topics are usually pretty bad. Ratings grabbers, like weight loss tips and makeovers done to death, while serious subjects are rarely done. She has done better, lately, but she is still mostly about ratings, even though she is fucking loaded.

She plays this humble game, but has no problem excepting the mantle of angel of the world. I wish she would give props to other people. Her success is not just about her.

I sometimes watch her show, but she really bugs me. Too bad the idealistic public don't see the same things.

Funny you say that... I'm watching today's show right now... All of these South African girls who have been raped... where the statistics are that "a young girl in South Africa has a greater chance of being raped than learning how to read"... and when she talks to them & says to them, "You ARE worthy, you ARE loved, you ARE special" & reminds us that she too was raped repeatedly as a child...

I'm sorry but my only complaint about Oprah is that she's corny sometimes (and that hot link frontin' I've mentioned before ) but I really do believe she does things from her heart yet handles her business @ the same time - she's no dummy, she knows this show has made her into the success she is so she has to please everyone... herself, the audience, the sponsors... She had it super shitty growing up, her money hasn't made her lose sight of who she is or what she's about IMO (except when she's frontin' 'bout them links).

Anyway, the shows have been pretty good this year I think

Hmmm...Oprah is a very opinonated woman and has no trouble making up her own mind about something I think that may turn some people off and some people think she is annoying cuz she thinks she knows everything...but she is a really great listner and just has this way about her that makes people want to open up to her and tell her personal things.

I look up to her in alot of ways...and this shallowness you speak of well I remember in the eighties her show was very trashy I guess...like trashy daytime talk show stuff...cheating husbands, high class hooker's lives, ect.

Now she seems to have much more enlighting topics.
