In Cali there is a clean air act which requires every gallon of gas to have this clean air solution in it. In order to add the solution you have to "subtract' gas. In other words a percentage of each gallon of gas you buy is the solution and NOT gas which makes the car function. Anyway.....when I was in Cali my BMW got about 320 highway miles per tank on an 18 gallon tank of gas. When I move to Georgia, where that clean air mess in NOT required in the gas, I'm getting about 500 miles per tank. Add to that the price of gas which averages about 25 to 50cents less per gallon. Isn't that crazy? I thought everyone in California went around on Rollerboots ????? lol. That sucks though. However I would presume the additive is to lower harmful emissions? Therefore you could take solace in knowing you have helped the environment a little.

Moderator | I think I'm gonna get a hybrid when my lease runs out. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

In the meantime, we have no other choice than to drive..... you don't have any co-workers with cars? you don't have any friends with cars? seems to me LA is a driver's city. that would mean a lot of people have vehicles. that would mean the potential for car pooling is pretty great. look, sweets, don't get all pissy with me and pretend that i'm the first person who's ever suggested car pooling. you'll need to get over that shit right quick. i think gas prices are ridiculous. i'm merely making some obvious suggestions. i'm not asking anyone to build shit so get that straight (if you can). i'm saying take some freaking initiative and do something (if its at all possible) or "quit yer bitching and eat yer pizza," as anna nicole smith would say. You are acting as if some of us haven't already thought of or investigated other transportation alternatives. Perhaps there are no co-workers living nearby or enroute to/from work, and no public trasnportation that will take us as close to our work location and back home with any regularity or within an acceptable time frame. We're not bitching just to bitch - gas prices are ridiculous and a very real issue to all the hard-working people in this state and country. It's real easy to judge us when you live in a city that has a well-tuned public transportation system running. We were cheated out of that by the lovely car manufacturers and gas companies back in the 40s when they disabled the then-sufficient Red car that travlled the length of the city. We are doing something - we Californians are raising our voices - our senators and congressmen DO speak for us (our governator is a fool, but don't get me started on that travesty). what a fucking mess we have in l.a. that's the truth. when I lived in Burbank and had to spend 45minutes in my car to get 10 miles, I checked out the public transport route. It would have taken 1 bus, transfer to a train, then transfer to another bus. And take two hours.
L.A. is such a sprawled out mess. PRAISE that I have a two-block foot commute now. I sometimes don't use my car for an entire week. That's nearly unheard of in L.A. YAY! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I have a 20 mile commute, 20 there and 20 back home again. I work the evening shift. There are no co-workers who live near me, and none with similar hours. I've been trying to get a day job for the past year so I can carpool or bus with others who work normal hours, but I haven't had any success with that yet. I'm also working on trading off my piece of shit car for a small 4-cylinder car.
I'm trying to improve my situation.

i used to envy people with cars. but right now i don't. i'm 30 minutes away from work on the bus and i have a unlimited student pass. the only time i pay for bus fare is when my kids ride and thats not much 'cause its only on the weekends. Gas is kinda like cigarettes now. glad i don't smoke those either
