ThreadCula said: psychodelicide said: Good for you for going to the prom by yourself, I never would have had the nerve to do that myself. Sounds like you showed your classmates that you are a good dancer. LOL yeah...I was the talk of the school the monday after Prom. They all thought I didnt have moves just because I studied.... They have this presentation thing before the prom I didnt go to that. I didnt have nerve to walk across a stage alone. There was this one girl who didnt have a date...she told me if I walked the stage at presentation she would do it too... I thought about it...but I said no I found out she got a date right before prom,so she wouldnt be alone at presentation. So Im glad I didnt do the presentation I'm glad you didn't do the presentation either, I would have felt funny walking onstage by myself too. I can't believe that some people think that a person who studies a lot can't dance. It baffles me as to where people get their ideas from. [Edited 4/19/06 20:00pm] RIP, mom. I did get a little nostalgic about 6+ months ago because 2005 would have been my 20th reunion, so I looked up my highschool on the internet. Turns out it is really completely different than when I went there. After I graduated they renovated the school. Then the school was flooded out when downtown Grand Forks, ND flooded. Then they changed the mascot and all from "The Chieftains" to "The Cavaliers" or something like that. Kinda made me want to go back...for a minute...then it passed. I'm firmly planted in denial

Elementary school: The most popular. Brainiac and class valecdictorian. High school: total introvert and loner. Had five friends all four years. Did the ROTC thing, too.
Geek then, geek now. | |

It's odd... The popular kids felt me, but the kids who weren't popular didn't know that, so I wasn't popular with them. (Lesson: I guess I had poor downmarket advertising.)
Seriously, though, the high school social hierarchy is a sick, sadomasochistic mess. I'm sooooo glad I'm out. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I hated high school and it's worse now for my own child. Two more months and he's out!!! Seriously, though, the high school social hierarchy is a sick, sadomasochistic mess. I'm sooooo glad I'm out.

I wasn't- i went to an all girlz school where most girlz mocked me for my accent or if i chose a big word they hadn't heard before, they'd make fun of that too. I went to choir, school production, school magazine wrote poetry- only my friendz loved me! And that was just fine- minus the mocking from the other girlz ofcourse Having good friendz would alwayz override the negativity though! No hablo espanol,no!
Pero hablo ingles..ssii muy muy bien... "Come into my world..." Missy Quote of da Month: "yeah, sure, that's cool...wait WHAT?! "

Two months to go! GOD BLESS!!! It's funny. I skipped my 10-year reunion, and went to my wife's instead. Unlike my own school, it turns out almost everyone at her school knew me! I was totally confused! I think we most impress upon people when we don't even know it... and when we don't try. Anymore, I don't try to be popular. I just live. My school was *super* small (29 people in my graduating class) so my answer to this is complicated...
I was in every extra-cirricular activity my HS offered: basketball, volleyball, softball, cross country & track, Speech & Drama Club, Spring Play, band, etc. and was the salutatorian of my class. (It was cool to get good grades at my school, be in theater & play every sport.) I was nominated for Homecoming Queen, but lost thankfully (long story); so by most accounts, I guess I would have been considered popular. However, my *closest* girl friends were huge BITCHES and I didn't really like them most of the time, but if I wasn't friends with them they would have made my life hell. (Think the movie "Heathers" w/o the murders. ) In addition, I was also really into art, so I knew a lot of the "weird, bad ass" art kids who smoked during lunch, etc... Add to that the fact that one of my flaws is that I'm very stubborn & hate being told what to do and I got in A TON of trouble with the teachers. I was kicked out of class/suspended a lot for talking back, so I didn't get inducted into the National Honor Society. I was a HUGE bitch to a lot of underclassmen, I think they were scared of me, which makes me feel bad/sad now. Even though from the outside it seemed like I was popular, I never really felt like I fit in anywhere... So far I've skipped all my reunions--it's complicated because I feel bad about the way I acted towards some people then, and my life now is so different from my former classmates that we don't have anything in common. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
