We had a boot tree in front of my unit in Germany. It was in Hontheim. The story was if you put your boots up there then you would leave. If they fell down you would either stay or come back one day. Needless to say, I didn't put my boots in there! We had a four star General fly over in his helicopter, hover over the branches and nail his boots up there. He made it official. Strange.
