the new dr who succeeds on every level apart from being true family viewing-the fundemental innocence of dr who is missing

The "innocence of Dr Who"? I think that's one of those misty eyed myths that some people cling to no matter how far from reality it is in truth. Is it the "innocence of Dr Who" that was responsible for Louise Jameson's outfit 30 years ago? ...or maybe it was the inspiration for having Sarah Sutton galavanting around in her lace underwear for the story "Terminus", or all that lesbian subtext in "The Stones Of Blood", etc... The truth of the matter is that there has been innuendo (and more) in Dr Who from the get go. It's silly to make a fuss about it now.

your talking shit-

have you had your son in complete innocence ask cos he heard on dr whois this is a sexual relationship

or when the door bell rings'who the hell are you?

or asking why captain jack squeezes mens bottoms??-the list is endless

or the whole torchwood thing-adverising it as a subplot on the new 'kids'show then having to tell your kids no you cant watch torchwood cos its an adults only programme revolving around a bi sexual captain-WTF???

Imagine having a UNIT spinoff when we were kids that was for adults only??

i love the new series but it is definatly not aimed for children-thtas what i mean about its not innocent-----lesbian subtext in the stones of blood??? eek -

ive never even thought about it..lesbian subtext..

the hell i am. lol Your first mistake is thinking that Doctor Who is purely a children's show, it's not and I'd be hard pressed to think of a time when it ever truly has been. It's a family show with *something* in it for everyone. For every plot built so a child could understand, you also have Leela's outfit created so the dad's will watch, and winking comments like the Doctor's, "Harry here's only qualified to work on Sailors" (from The Ark In Space).

have you had your son in complete innocence ask cos he heard on dr whois this is a sexual relationship

or when the door bell rings'who the hell are you?

...and you ACTUALLY have a son going around focusing on these things rather than the monsters of the week? I haven't heard anything on Dr. Who that I don't hear on other shows of it's type (Buffy, Stargate, etc...) so I fail to see why a kid would pick them out here. Some people think nothing of the violence that happens on Doctor Who but get worked up over this? It boggles the mind. lol

or asking why captain jack squeezes mens bottoms??

Oh yes, a quick pat on the bum is sooooo much worse than Sarah Sutton running around in her lacy under things or aliens running around in SKIN SUITS. If people have a problem with Captain Jack then it says a whole lot more about them than it does about the show.

or the whole torchwood thing-adverising it as a subplot on the new 'kids'show then having to tell your kids no you cant watch torchwood cos its an adults only programme revolving around a bi sexual captain-WTF???

So, you more or less have a problem with the gay content, never-mind the heterosexist stuff has been just as bad or worse over the years. Nevermind that Dr. Who is not just a children's show, any more than Buffy is...

Imagine having a UNIT spinoff when we were kids that was for adults only??

You keep saying 'adults only' like it's going to be a porn show or something, when in reality it's simply going to be more in line with "The X-Files". No one is saying kids can't watch, only that it isn't at all aimed at them.

i love the new series but it is definatly not aimed for children-thtas what i mean about its not innocent-----

No, it's not just a children's show.

lesbian subtext in the stones of blood??? eek -

ive never even thought about it..lesbian subtext..

LOL It might as well have been written on a big sign... Amelia and Vivian are sharing a cottage and portrayed to be lesbians in just about everything but name, the comment about how much fun Romana can have with a bicycle seat, there's the scenes where Romana kisses Amelia and she gets overly excited, etc...

I would have loved Captain Jack when I was ten years old!!!

I mean... is there really anything suggestive about seeing a strapping hunk of a bottom-fixated bisexual man, dressed in a military uniform whilst straddling a huge phallus-shaped bomb between his legs?

I think not.

I just snagged the larger version of that pic and officially entered gay geekdom by using it as a desktop picture on one of my monitors. TA!

Win a life-size Dalek! eek

Missing episode hunt
Find a missing episode and win a replica Dalek.

Doctor Who has been a hit TV show for more than 40 years. Unfortunately more than 100 of the early black and white episodes no longer exist in the BBC's film and videotape library.

However, episodes that the BBC thought had been lost forever have turned up in car boot sales, in peoples' attics and in other weird locations. So the wonderful people at Blue Peter have launched a campaign to try and track down these lost episodes.

The prize for anybody who finds a missing episode is a full-size replica Dalek... so it's definitely worth asking your family to check their lofts, garages, and spare bedrooms for any old film cannisters that might have the magic words 'Doctor Who' on the label.

Click on the link below to visit the Blue Peter website for full details of all of the episodes that are currently missing. There's also the details of how you can get in touch with the BBC if you do find one of these lost reels of film.

I saw it and thought it was lovely. I grew up watching endless repeats of Dr. Who here in the states on PBS during the late 70s/early 80s and SJS has always been my favorite companion. Lis Sladen still looks fantastic and I wish they would use her more, perhaps on the upcoming Torchwood spin-off.

I finally got a chance to watch it last night after getting home from work.

(spoiler alert....highlight to read)
Yeah, I can see how it'd be soap-esque, but it did show that he usually doesn't get that attached to his companions because of the life-span difference. He still has a lot of love for Sarah Jane, and he seems to want to have the same type of relationship with Rose if not more. Adding Mickey seems to not sit right with Rose. Hmm...wonder why? wink Overall, a good episode.

And it was great watching K-9 kicking some ass!
woot!
