Are you kidding?
Nearly 9,000,000 people watched the show last night and in a population of 60,000,000 that's quite a large percentage. The plot was a bit silly - but who cares? It's Doctor Who!!!

yesterdays doctor who was fine , the series had really slumped to horrible lows so I'm gonna give this new series a chance , why write something off after one episode , and as already said it got 8 or 9 miliion ratings so lots are sticking with it after Ecclestons good outings . Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

Frankly, I thought new Earth was rather good... The ending with the IV meds used as shower cure was a bit of a bad idea, imo, but it was a very enjoyable episode. I certainly enjoyed it more than The Christmas Episode overall. It may not have reached the heights of "Dalek" or "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" but it's hardly anything to 'destroy' the series.
Though, I do think if he was going to bother bring back Cassandra he could have put her to better use.

I wonder if Cassandra is really dead? Would she really have gone down so quietly, without a fight?

Actually, there's a more accurate way to look at that... Out of all TV's turned on in the UK last night, nearly 40% of them were tuned to a single show. Guess which one? It's pretty darn good considering it was a holiday weekend.

My first thought is that she was going to go back into her old (errr, young) body. I think Cassie is a fun villain so it would be a shame if that is it for her.

But you've got to admit that the whole premise of Doctor Who is inherently camp. He's not a space-soldier or part of an inter-galactic federation. He's a solitary tourist whom travels in something resembling a 1950s police phone box, picking up young men and women along the way.

do i fuck-this whole cultural zeitgeist of camp makes me mad!
dr who is /was is no means camp-yes when JNT an openly gay man got his hands on it it went very camp-bonnke langford, ken dodd, nicholas parsons etc-but the premise is far far from camp

Yes, I do. You know why? ...because the casual viewer tuned in after Aliens Of London last year, for Part 2. In fact, World War 3 had even more viewers. I was no fan of either of those episodes myself, but the 'casual viewer' seemed to have no trouble with them and they certainly didn't tune out afterwards. I'd estimate that it's a select, vocal group of core Dr. Who fanatics who have the bulk of the issues with these type of episodes.

There's always going to be highs and lows in any given television series. As for this latest episode, no it wasn't the best, but I liked it anyway.

"..the audience appreciation index (AI) results for Saturday are available, and the transmission of New Earth secured a rating of 85. This is the highest figure for any programme on UK television on Saturday...The figure suggests a general audience response slightly more positive than that for The Christmas Invasion (84), and makes the episode more widely 'popular' than all but two episodes of the 2005 series - 'Bad Wolf' (86) and 'The Parting of the Ways' (89). Why has he changed his accent? If James Bond can have a scottish accent, why can't Dr Who? Otherwise, too early to say, but I wasn't a huge fan of Eccleston as the Dr.

Otherwise, too early to say, but I wasn't a huge fan of Eccleston as the Dr. Cos DR WHO is English! and then they would have to have a whole episode explaining why he has a scottish accent now, and Rose would be all and stuff... if sexy was a colour it would be red
