I'm reading John Irving's Son of Circu . Very entertaining.

Also reading Eric Hanson's "The Bird Man and The Lap Dancer"--a very entertaining travel memoir.

I'm currently reading SERIAL KILLERS - THE METHOD AND MADNESS OF MONSTERS

I really thought that this thread would attract the gays.

I'm reading "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. Best book I've read in years. If it weren't for my Xbox 360, I wouldn't be able to put it down.

It's about the building of a cathedral in 14th century England, but that's just the narrative focal point. It's really about the interweaving lives of the peasants, the church, and the monarchy. Yeah, it doesn't sound too exciting, but it's full of deceit, plotting, treachery...think "Melrose Place" in the Middle Ages. biggrin

Fantastic read.

"The Farming of Bones," by Edwidge Danticat. It's memorable.

I'm reading "On the Road," now, by Kerouac. For school. I don't like so much.

I read "Observatory Mansions," because of one these threads before. Goddamn island of misfit toys was all it was. neutral

"I Am Legend," by Richard Matheson was nice, if you prefer old school "thoughtful" horror.

"Green Darkness," by Anya Seton isn't bad.

"Bestial: the Savage Trail of a True American Monster."

About a serial killer. Skip it. It's horribly boring, aside from having the longest title ever.

I consider myself a pretty happy person 24/7. I need to read this stuff to balance myself out.

It was the book that turned me OFF his stuff. Only his most recent book 'Until I Find You; A Novel' kinda put it back on track for me...

I am re-reading an old haunt; Tanith Lee's Birthgrave. In Dutch (shudder) as English versions are hard to come by as it is out of print. She was one of my fave writers when I was a kid.

Also tackling Jon Courtenay Grimwood's Effendi.

And some mediaval weaponry and heraldry books ar research.

I'm reading Game Of Shadows, it's about Barry Bonds steroid usage. This is what led to the Feds getting on his ass. Once the Feds take you to a GRAND JURY, you know damn well they have MOUNTAINS of evidence on your ass. I hope he gets banned from baseball for life.

I need something new to read, anyone have some suggestions?

PLOT:

A guy named Odd Thomas is able to see the dead. THey come to him. But in addition to seeing the dead, he sees these shadows he calls Bodachs. He knows to pretend that he can't see them since those "others" who've had the gift of seeing them and made it obvious have all died in freak accidents.

Anyways, Bodachs congregate around crime scenes or future crime scenes. They're not interested in the heart attack, or the accidental shooting. They congregate around very nasty crime scenes. Once when some kid killed his entire family with some house tools and tortured them to death, 13 bodachs hung out around the house going from room to room witnessing the killings. It's like their wierd voyeurs.

Odd notices a guy walk into the diner where he works. A creepy guy. He walks out of the diner of he eats and Odd counts ...oh, roughly 50 or so bodachs following him.

This is a fun read.
