U can be "Big" and still be healthy, just because people are bigger than "Normal"(hate that word) then there are seen as not being healthy, Im a quite big person myself, but i go gym 3 times a week, and play football every weekend, i dont eat alot of crap food because i normal watch what i eat, But just because im bigger than most people, then does that make me un-healthy?

Nope, it doesn't.

My doctor (my DOCTOR, people) actually told me not to worry about my weight. My diet is great, I'm active, all of my numbers are where they should be. . . so don't worry about it. He said that more and more, research is showing that people have limited control over their weight, and that people who have a healthy lifestyle and still aren't skinny have to go to such extreme lengths to be skinny that it's not responsible to even reccommend it if their weight isn't causing health problems.

People need to knock it off with this "I can say nasty things about fat people because they're unhealthy" bullshit. rolleyes

whatever..... maybe it wasnt your place to question the age of the child shrug

maybe it wasnt your place to pass judgement on the child or the parents...

maybe, just maybe there is something else you can do with your time than look at children and wonder whats wrong with them ....

the world is FULL of ugly.... it makes me sad that instead of smiling at the child and making a difference in his/her life that way - you sat back and looked down on them disbelief

I took my 5 year old to the nurse and asked if something was wrong with him because everyone tells me he's too skinny. She sighed and said he is exactly what a kid his age is meant to be, school starters are meant to be very skinny, but I'm comparing him with other kids that aren't within the normal weight for their age sad

K...here we go. Go look up a healthy weight chart. If you fall into the overweight or obese categories based on height and weight, or BMI, you are unhealthy and have a higher mortality rate....PERIOD.

You may not like it or want to accept, because believe me, been there, done that.....but the simple FACT is that it is unhealthy.

Sorry.

Exactly. Monique is not overweight, she's obese. Obese acceptance/pride is pathetic. You are celebrating a horrible, unhealthy lifestyle. I think people who push fat acceptance down everyone's throats are trying to convince themselves, more than anyone else, that they are "beautiful" or "healthy".

Being a little overweight does not make you unhealthy at all (unless it's all around your midsection) nor does it make you unattractive. People who carry their extra pounds evenly can look great.

Health issues aside...
I was a fat kid who grew into a skinny adult. So I'm completely aware of how ppl's attitudes change according to your physical appearance.
For me, overweight people fall into two categories: Those who are perfectly comfortable in their own skin (and who are attractive as a result of their self-acceptance) and those who are obviously unhappy about their size. The latter complain for hours on end...and then go eat a mountain of lard in one go. Eating is an emotional response for them: they look at themselves, they get upset, they eat. It's a vicious circle. That kind of person (and, I hate to sound like a misogynist, but it's usually women who fall into this category) drive me fucking insane. Get of your fat arse and go for a run if you're so unhappy with your weight.

I remember my doctor saying there are two kinds of fat people: People who will always be big because that's their body make up and fat people who are skinny on the inside. He said he's more concerned about the fat people who should be smaller.

and the BMI doesn't accurately measure if you're obese because it doesn't take into consideration muscle mass. Even the CDC says that.

I have a problem with the whole obesity thing on the BMI, I went in a few years ago to ask my doc about a diet because according to the BMI I was obsese, he laughed at me and said don't worry about that chart or whatever it is, I just want you to have a healthy diet and exercise regularly and don't be surprised if you put on weight when you start exercising...and I did.

well, muscle weight more than fat so that kinda makes sense. i don't know how accurate the bmi is or isn't but there are ways to assess your body fat percentage that are quite accurate as far as determining obesity.

lol You know what? I'm overweight, I'm obese and I do not push for people to accept that. I do not give a fuck if people do or don't. For you to say that people not to take pride in themsleves for who they are, in my honest opinion, is just wrong. Every time I think no more fucked up stuff can be said on the Org, voila! Here's more.

This topic was not even about fat people. It's about parents who ALLOW their children to GET fat. Those who LET them eat until they can't possibly fit anything else in their tummy. Those who do not control what their child eat. It's child abuse!

If there were a camera on you 24 hours a day, would anything you do with your kids be considered child abuse? If it be a spanking, or leaving a kid alone for a few moments, every parent does something that they shouldn't do.

Adults can be as fat as they want. I don't care if they abuse food and their bodies, thats by their own decision. I just don't think they should take their kids down with them.

For your information, "spanking" is not considered child abuse. Leaving your kids alone for "a few moments" is not considered child abuse.

You, perhaps should have stated that in your topic.

Your business should be your children, and not someone elses.

Parents who allow their children to get fat

..

Sad!

I saw this kid today, at least 100 lbs and only 8 years old. I asked his parents his age. It was sad.

Both parents over-weight, but the child, there is no reason in this. I can't understand.
I think a parent who allows this is in some way abusing their child.

.. this is my "original posts".. what is so hard about understanding that?

I feel like it is a form of abuse too...at the very least, it's a form of neglect.
But at the same time I do realize how hard it is to break old habits. If the parents are use to years and years of overeating it may be hard to adopt a healthy lifestyle for their children.
Hard, but not impossible.
