Parents who allow their children to get fat

..

sad

Sad!

I saw this kid today, at least 100 lbs and only 8 years old. I asked his parents his age. It was sad.

Both parents over-weight, but the child, there is no reason in this. I can't understand.
I think a parent who allows this is in some way abusing their child.

Well, if this is the problem and if this COULD be possible, I suggest his parents take him to the doctor..

I ran into them at the store, a wholesale club store and you should have seen the food his parents were buying.. hmmm . I'm sure whatever condition he may have, that food don't help.

doubt it. there are many obese children and more often than not, their parents are overweight/obese themselves. People like this make me mad sometimes because being overweight and especially being obese is such a serious health issue. Some people like to think that society needs to accept the obese for who they are but really, these people need to be seen as unhealthy.

Monique has a new movie out called 'Phat Girlz' and as a part of her promotion of the film, she's talking alot about how 'fat women' and 'fat girls' need to accept themselves for who they are and that is true to a point but really they need to be healthy. We all do.

U can be "Big" and still be healthy, just because people are bigger than "Normal"(hate that word) then there are seen as not being healthy, Im a quite big person myself, but i go gym 3 times a week, and play football every weekend, i dont eat alot of crap food because i normal watch what i eat, But just because im bigger than most people, then does that make me un-healthy?

Nope, it doesn't.

My doctor (my DOCTOR, people) actually told me not to worry about my weight. My diet is great, I'm active, all of my numbers are where they should be. . . so don't worry about it. He said that more and more, research is showing that people have limited control over their weight, and that people who have a healthy lifestyle and still aren't skinny have to go to such extreme lengths to be skinny that it's not responsible to even reccommend it if their weight isn't causing health problems.

People need to knock it off with this "I can say nasty things about fat people because they're unhealthy" bullshit. rolleyes

obesity runs in our family, my daughter got it from both sides, she's a big girl, always has been always will be. I teach her about portions and a balanced diet. She is VERY VERY active and still weights well over 100 lbs. She is healthy and that's all I care about. Sometimes when her growth lags a bit she looks different, but I tell her to keep up the good habits because health is more important than the look.

Many props should be given to Monique for that movie....she is letting women who are larger, and healthy to love their asses...phat or not...Society as a whole pushes girls to be thin as paper and that is the only way to be....Its about time more women who are of larger sizes stand up and let all the other larger women in the world know its ok to be a larger size and still be healthy. Just cause someone is a larger size does not mean they are healthy and happy. I know plenty of people who can vouch for this. Granted I don't know what it is like to be a larger size women, but I can tell you that the pressures society put on women are sometimes more harmful then hurtful.

Kudos to monique and your phat ass.... thumbs up!

Fat Kids generally grow up to be drug dealers and purse snatchers.

Kill two birds with one fat kid, send them to famine-struck countries as a source of food.

when i was younger i was a big little girl lol
and it was hard finding clothes because many if not all stores at the time went up to a size 9 and that was it...
i've been a size 13 for all my teenaged life and now, and it's nice to see some stores embracing ACTUAL REALISTIC clothing sizes and not the ideal anymore...
there was a time when shopping for clothes was depressing,
it's still hard now, but deffinitely not as hard as it used to be nod

that's exactly my point. you should accept yourself for how you are and try to be healthy. if you're big, you're big and if you're small, you're small. but there is no reason to be unhealthy or proud to be unhealthy.

I was talking about OBESE people and never once did i refer to any of these people as big. i'm considered a big person by some but i am by no means unhealthy. you can be skinny and unhealthy, too...hello anorexia?

Spookymuffin

Sometimes it's not the parents. I used to be overweight, and it was my fault because I ate when I was away from home. My brother is overweight because of the medication he takes for epilepsy, so I'd watch your words with the blame the parents gesture cause you could step on people's toes, if you know what I mean.

i never said that just because someone is larger that they are not healthy but let's be realistic here. There are people who are bigger and then there are people who are obese. it's not good to obese or to be proud of being obese and i feel that's what monique is doing. the movie 'real women have curves' sent a healthier message, imo.

Society's pressure on girls to be thin is another issue entirely from the fact that there are eight year olds who are over 100 pounds.

GOD I HATE THIS SHIT and I know this won't make me popular...

I don't mean to be blunt, and I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but I am SO SICK of "big" people justifying their size, and being overly sensitive about the truth, and then bashing someone for pointing it out. K...here we go. Go look up a healthy weight chart. If you fall into the overweight or obese categories based on height and weight, or BMI, you are unhealthy and have a higher mortality rate....PERIOD.

You may not like it or want to accept, because believe me, been there, done that.....but the simple FACT is that it is unhealthy.

Sorry.

Childhood obesity...for those without a bonafide medical condition...is MOST DEFINITELY a form of child abuse.

And unfortunately, more & more young children (here in the U.S.A.) are obsese.

Such a shame... disbelief
