I got back a bit from Internal Rev but owed to the state, two states matter fact

Not bad though, all in all I made out with a few bucks.

My taxes were filed and my returns, both federal and state, spent months ago.

I still owed them money from last year, so got that cleared up, and walked away with $300. Hey, I'll take it.

Does everyone have to do their taxes in the states???

I got a grand back this year. Now that I live in RI and work in RI I didn't have to pay an extra $500 to MA...that was a nice change!

When I started doing my taxes, I really thought I was gonna either owe money or just get like 100 back...I ended up getting over 1000 back

We all prepare our own federal and state income tax returns annually. Or you can pay someone to do it for you.
Taxes are taken out of paychecks (at whatever rate you choose) but each year you must prove what you rightfully owe for the year, and then pay any difference from what was already taken, or receive a refund if you've paid too much.

I did alright. Only had to wait a week for the fed refund, still waiting for the state. I'm happy as long as I don't have to pay them.

I still have to do my state...eh when I get to it.

We don't have a state income tax in Washington, so I had to do only one return. OTOH, the sales tax in Seattle is a whopping 8.8%. (It varies from city to city.)

As for my federal refund, it was roughly $1,200. That certainly beats the year I was expecting a refund, but wound up having to write a check to the IRS for $600-$700. It didn't help that I was a full-time student, and my wife was "underemployed," first as a teacher's aide and then as a substitute teacher, even though she had the license needed for a "real" teaching job.

we get around 2,500 back each yr ... we leave this sat for our week vacation in a beach front home on oak island

A local dj here in Mpls. had moved here from Florida where they don't file their state taxes. They were talking about filing state taxes on the air one morning and she was like, "What state taxes??" Apparantly her tax preparer was from Florida and didn't do her homework on Minnesota tax info so she had to scramble to file her state taxes.

I owe. A lot. My work fucked up my tax documents and had me tax blocked for half of the year. Fun.

My wife had that problem with one of her jobs while we were going to college. She had to meet with the head manager 3 times to finally get them to process her taxes correctly.

It's comforting to know I'm not alone in that. This is the first time in my life I won't get a refund instead of having to pay. She's lucky she was even able to meet with a manager. I have to do all my contact by telephone and e-mail. (Granted, this is the same company that doubled my 401K deduction when I asked them to reduce it. -_-)
