Devastating endings?

Though they were inevitable, I don't think I've ever cried more in public than viewing Dancer in the Dark and another movie I can never remember the name of w/Parker Posey as an assistant DA investigating the death of an AIDS patient and the person who gave him the meds to die peacefully. I never remember the name of that movie.

Have you ever watched a movie that was so bad that the degree of its sucking makes the ending great?

I am not talking about what happens at the end of the movie or even the ending sceene.

I am talking about the point of the moive where the film ends. And at that point you are just glad it ended?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Name some movies you've seen with:

1) A really devastating ending (the kind that seems to stick with you and almost haunt you long after the movie's over).

Mine:
Life Is Beautiful
Night Of The Living Dead
Donnie Darko
Arlington Road
Audition
The Notebook (ok, I'm a romantic..lol)

2) A really good twist ending (you never saw that ending coming)

Mine:
Usual Suspects
Sixth Sense
Primer

3) A really good "feel-good" ending (had you feeling really positive about things afterwards)

Mine:
American Beauty
Waking Life
Antwone Fisher
Before Sunset (again, I'm a romantic..lol)

Just joined Netflix, and need some movies like this to add to my list... lol

"Antwone Fisher" edit...

The original ending for the movie Clerks, has Dante getting shot and killed in a robbery of the QuikMart. It was edited out, but on the dvd it's included in the outtakes. I'm glad they cut it out

That was a very good decision. That tragic ending had no place in what is basically a silly movie.

I don't remember the title of the movie it was either dutch or german.Anyways, two psychos manage to talk their way into a vacationing couple's house where they proceed to beat & torment the hell out of them eventually killing the husband. At one point, the wife manages to get a hold of their gun & kills one of them. Here's the strange part of the movie. The other psycho is so enraged that she managed to kill his friend, he takes a vcr remote & literally rewinds the movie back to the point before his friend gets shot! The actual ending, really bothered me also.

It's called "Funny Games" (at least that's the American Title)...and you're right, that was one tense, disturbing movie from beginning to end. neutral And the wife ends up being killed last, bound and gagged and just tossed overboard in the middle of a lake...and the two psychos go on to knock on the front door of yet another house so they can do it all over again to another family... disbelief

The only thing that keeps me from just being hugely depressed from seeing that movie (lol) is the fact that I believe the director was trying to tell the audience that the two psychos knew they were in a movie, so anything they did was ok because it wasn't really happening (which is why the one psycho picks up the remote and "rewinds" the movie when his friend gets killed...kind of a tip-off to the audience that those two guys know the whole thing is "just a movie")...

Funny Games, yes, that's the title, thanks Byron .Yeah the way the wife was just causally thrown in the lake & prsumeably drowned, that really bothered me.I forgot there was a son also.Ugh, I don't think I could watch this film again.

milkandhoney

A smattering of choice suggestions, for movie-lover's sake.

Oldboy
Love and a .45
Frailty
28 Days Later
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Drop Dead Fred
L'Ours
The Pianist
Quills
Sling Blade
When a Man Loves a Woman

I'm a sucker for Pumpkinhead, but don't try it if you're not a fan of cheesy horror.

1) A really devastating ending (the kind that seems to stick with you and almost haunt you long after the movie's over).

Dancer In The Dark- It stayed with me for months..I showed it to my step-mother who afters said she hated it and wanted to know why i showed it to her...a couple weeks later she called me and said she must have liked it because she hadnt stopped thinking about it and it made her think about life in general..

2) A really good twist ending (you never saw that ending coming)

Mulholand Dr- Never in a million years would I guess what happened actually was.....well, I wont ruin it.

3) A really good "feel-good" ending (had you feeling really positive about things afterwards)

Dont laugh but:

Dodgeball- Everytime I watch this film it leaves me feeling good about the world...

and

Dont laugh Part 2:

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me- The final shot of Laura Palmer smiling in joy..After years and years of being tortured I was finally allowed to let it all go and see that Laura Palmer's death was the only way she would be allowed to be at peace...Masterful acting by the underrated Sheryl Lee
