Movie Endings...

Name some movies you've seen with:

1) A really devastating ending (the kind that seems to stick with you and almost haunt you long after the movie's over).

Mine:
Life Is Beautiful
Night Of The Living Dead
Donnie Darko
Arlington Road
Audition
The Notebook (ok, I'm a romantic..lol)

2) A really good twist ending (you never saw that ending coming)

Mine:
Usual Suspects
Sixth Sense
Primer

3) A really good "feel-good" ending (had you feeling really positive about things afterwards)

Mine:
American Beauty
Waking Life
Antwone Fisher
Before Sunset (again, I'm a romantic..lol)

Just joined Netflix, and need some movies like this to add to my list... lol

"Antwone Fisher" edit...

I love really powerful endings.

One Hour Photo:

Robin William's feels awful and alone for what he did, so he looks off into the distance, while a sad song plays and a photograph comes to life, that tells the whole story. Cried.

Schindler's List: When you see the gravestones going by.

Blood Simple, one drop of water tells the tale.

Psycho, Norman Bates smiles into the camera. Leaves your blood cold.

I agree with Night Of The Living Dead. The black guy is put on the fire, in freeze frame. Creepy and sad.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

1) A really devastating ending (the kind that seems to stick with you and almost haunt you long after the movie's over).

Carrie (I know. I was a sensitive kid)
Silent Running
Co-sign on Night of the Living Dead
Under the Cherry Moon
Bamboozled

2) A really good twist ending (you never saw that ending coming)
Sixth Sense nod

3) A really good "feel-good" ending (had you feeling really positive about things afterwards)
Dead Poet's Society
October Sky
Mo' Betta Blues
Strangely... Malcolm X (should have made me sad, but Spike really spun it into something uplifting)

2 devastating endings I've seen were "horror" films:

The Vanishing (the original, not the US production)
The Wickerman (soon to be remade by Neal Lebute)

Wait what about the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

Yeah! Saying "Captain, my captain." They were showing their loyalty to their teacher, who freed their snooty blue-blooded souls! It was awesome!!

I have never seen a theatre in such sobbing dissarray as after the ending of.....

The Color Purple

Couldn't even get into this film when opening day, the line went around the mall.

Also...

The ending of Schindler's List when you see the real people led by the actors that portrayed them. That made me gasp.

Hmmm, I'm sure I have better choices than some of these but they happen to be ones I've watched or thought about recently.

1) A really devastating ending (the kind that seems to stick with you and almost haunt you long after the movie's over).

Rosemary's Baby
The Remains Of The Day
Brokeback Mountain
Thelma & Louise
Stepmom
Wit

2) A really good twist ending (you never saw that ending coming)

The Others
Gosford Park

3) A really good "feel-good" ending (had you feeling really positive about things afterwards)

Breakfast On Pluto
Big Eden

That's right..!! I saw an episode of "Family Guy" that spoofed that ending recently...lol lol

And I will agree with you about Malcolm X being ultimately uplifting at the end...I felt the same way.

The only 2 movie endings that have really shocked me with twists:

The Game
Fight Club

(oh, and maybe The Usual Suspects, but that's already been mentioned)

The original ending for the movie Clerks, has Dante getting shot and killed in a robbery of the QuikMart. It was edited out, but on the dvd it's included in the outtakes. I'm glad they cut it out
