Hi i have a general question you know that expression that goes "what's with the..." people use that often and i don't know what it means to express? like when you say "what with the...
' what are you saying? are you asking what's what? what are you asking? i don't get it.. does it vary according to context? / occasion? thanks in advance. i couldn't figure this out for myself, sorry to ask a daft question like this. [Edited 4/6/06 3:05am] | |

Do you mean like 'What's with the earrings?' or 'What's with the suit?'. I think it basically means why or what are you doing, wearing, listening to etc, surely? | |

"What's with" is normally used in a context of a complaint, but not always. It usually translates to "Why the hell woul you...." Although sometimes it's just used innocently to question the reasoning behind something. | |
