Admiral can't stop watching "Brokeback Mountain" on DVD

Since he picked it up yesterday at Best Buy, my buddy Admiral has seen the "Brokeback Mountain" DVD 10 times. He just cannot understand how such a "sensitive heartfelt love story for the ages" (his words) did not win Best Picture. I'm really starting to worry about him because he's refusing to shave or shower and is having crazy ideas about creating a time machine and going back in time 3 months to convince Academy voters that "Crash" sucked ass.

Did I mention that he's also completely naked?

It appears to be a multi-floor condo.

Wait, what were you talking about?

Brokeback didnt win because it isn't as good as Crash.
end of story.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

actually, if you want to judge by oscar wins, they're equally good stories, but brokeback had better direction and crash i guess had wider appeal.

but i don't want to judge by oscar wins, nor do i think it's terribly productive to consider one "better than" the other. each is a good film in its own way. i know brokeback fans who think "crash" is crap because it kept brokeback from winning best picture. foolishness. rolleyes

Admiral offers the following retort:

"I WILL CLAW YOUR EYES. YOU HAVE BROUGHT OFFENSE TO THIS CINEMATIC CLASSIC AND FOR THAT I SHALL PUMMEL AND PURPLE NURPLE YOU!!!"

Or it really could be crap. I honestly have no desire to see it so I don't know. The Oscars rarely get it right for Best Picture, so no one should be shocked. Go ahead and check the last 20 years of the Best Pic winners and see if each film is now considered the best film released that year. Great films stand the test of time.

Its reviews from months before the Oscars weren't as strong as Brokeback. Not even close. British mags that I read tore it a new one. Crash won because all the people in the Academy are too lazy to go see all the movies, but Crash was sent to all of them on DVD as a promotional tool.

Additionally, it could be because the director is a rising Scientologist and the movie is about L.A. But I wouldn't want to accuse Hollywood of being narcissistic. Not me.

Anyways, I'm just arguing for the sake of it. I liked Munich much better than Brokeback, so there. razz

i have yet to see Brokeback and found Crash to be just an okay movie but i dont recall all the war vets throwing a fit when Saving Private Ryan lost to Shakespear in Love (which run is very similiar to Crash...not a critical darling...great oscar campaign)...

it suprises me how so many have come out lashing out at Crash....

I don't necessarily think this is the reason it lost, but the first thing I thought was "homophobia". I don't always think like that, but it crossed my mind. BTW, I know gay roles have won Oscars, but Best Picture is a little different, imo.

Crash was the better film.

A lot of Brokeback Mountain was just ponderous mumbling. It's just a TV Movie with pretentions and a bigger budget.

I stopped paying attention to 'Oscar' after the year that Bio-Dome got shut out.

i agree!!

make it a gay movie an you'll always win the "gay" vote.
Make a movie about real people in real situations and people dont think its realistic enough.

Crash was a more prefound movie than Brokeback was ever going to be.
None of my friends were ever going to go see a movie about 2 gay cowboys.

One character in Brokeback mumbled. One.

And I thought it was a movie about two people being in love. So, of course, why would anyone care about that... shrug
