I've only smoked for about 3 years but my father died from emphysema around Thanksgiving, so I've been working on quitting for awhile. It's been 2 weeks, I think. And apart from 3 nights of drinking in the last 2 months, it's been, um 2 months. My will power goes way down when I drink. Like I NEED a cig then!

I find that if I cut down on things I associated with smoking, it's much easier. Like, I got used to smoking after getting my Starbucks in the morning. So I went w/o Starbucks for awhile and got out of that habit. But still smoking and drinking are bad news for me. Anyways, I'm laid up on my couch because of a foot surgery so it's real easy not to smoke right now. It's a bitch to get up and go anywhere, so no sudden urges. By the time I'll be able to walk it will have been about 2 months so I don't plan on going back to it. Wish me luck.

I had quit for just about a year and started up again a month ago. I'm hooked all over again...not ready to quit just yet but I know I will be. I do this all the time.

Im sorry to hear about your dad.
I found that after the first couple of times out drinking with my mates it got easier.
It was hard the first couple of times but after a while you realise that the yearning for a cigarette mixed with the feeling of drunkiness is actually an amazing sensation. smile
good luck.
