Actually, the only part of the bread that gets soggy is inside where the soup soaks in. The outside of the bread bowl is quite crunchy and delicious.

They had broccoli cheese soup at Panera's last night, and I was sooo tempted to get it in a bread bowl. But I was good and had a salad instead. Never had the crab, shrimp and lobster sauce in a bread bowl from Red Lobster's. I'll have to try it one of these days.

Sounds yummy! The hardest part of making bread bowls, I would think, would be cutting the middle part out without messing it up. Of course, in restaurants like Panera's, they have a machine that does it, which makes it soooo much easier.

17lbs seems reasonable.

Which is easy for me to say. . . I don't have to push 7 or 8 pounds of that out of MY body.
